There are no "correct" primary colors...

First of all, my printer isn't printing very vividly so consider that comparison imperfect. This set is actually much closer to the "best" primary colors than a traditional blue, red, yellow. This is closer to cyan, magenta, and yellow, the closest 3 primary colors we have to create the most secondary/tertiary colors. The "magenta" is called "deep rubin red" but it's magenta-like, and the "cyan" is called "turquoise," and that seems fairly accurate. I'd prefer an actual cyan and magenta but this is by far the best set I found for a decent price. I paid $6.50 for all 6 large paints. I made lots of beautiful colors with only those 3 primaries. Really infinite vivid shades. I just watched a YouTube video on CMY color mixing and I was good to go. The page with the lighter colors are pastels: mixed with white. Other than white, I made all those colors with only the 3 primaries from this set. I haven't had a lot of success darkening colors with black yet, but I only tried to darken a blue I tried to make. I need to experiment more with the blue making. Cyan with a little magenta makes blue, and I was getting close with or without adding black. The purples and teals are to-die-for. Wonderful variety in browns even without using the black or white. I didn't open the green that came with the set yet. It will save me some yellow next time I want to mix up shades of green. The yellow in particular doesn't go very far, I will have to look into getting more yellow. The tried paint on paper is chalky and unpleasant to touch. Applying a layer of gloss (which I already had) made it much nicer and is generally recommended anyway to protect your work. Coverage is decent, but not the absolute best I've ever seen. I'll update my review if anything happens like the paint cracks or anything. I look forward to doing some real projects with these colors. I have been excited to switch to CMY, and so far I love it more than RBY.

Vivid Colors

These paints are just the right size for small group projects. The colors are not transparent and blend very well.

These are NOT the actual painting Primary Colors, but theyre ok if you arent too worried about that.

This Pack Is NOT The Actual Primary Colors. A Primary Color Pack Is Apple Red, Sunshine Yellow, Royal Blue, Black, White And A Medium Grey. The Blue In This Pack Is NOT Royal Blue. The Red Is Some Kind Of Magenta Red, Not The Rich Pure Apple Red. The Yellow Is A Lemon Yellow, Not Sunshine. And They Added An Emerald Green Instead Of Grey Which Is I Guess Ok Since It Saves Your Yellow And Blue. But You Cant Make A Nice Deep Royal Blue With A Turquoise/Cyan Blue Which Is The Blue They Decided To Add Here. Itll Always Come Out Abit Off. Thats Why Royal Blue Is The Primary Color In Painting Because It Can Be Mixed Into ANY One Of The Blue Colors You Need By Adding The Other Colors To It. The Same Is True For Apple Red, And Sunshine Yellow. Those Three Are The Purest Forms Of The Color And Thus Make All The Colors. Cyan/Turquoise Blue Has White And Green Mixed In. Magenta Red Has Blue/Purple Mixed In. And Lemon Yellow Has White Mixed In. This Means The Colors Wont Be Pure. THIS Blue, Red And Yellow Look More Like The Primary Colors Youd See On A Printer, Not In Paints. The Paint Itself Is Ok Though So Its Definitely Usable. Its Alittle Thinner Than I Was Expecting But Ill Assume Water Was Added To It To Make It Spread More Which Also Makes The Colors A Little Off. Basically This Pack Is Good For Kids Who Dont Care About Specifics, But If Youre An "OCD" Artist Like Me, Just Buy The Colors Individually So You Have The Right Primaries For Your Art. I Got This Little Set Specifically For A Project My Four Year Old Daughter Wants Me To Work On With Her. Shes Becoming A Mini Artist So I Do Like That These Are All Non-Toxic, But Still Watch Your Kids Closely With Them. Well Be Using It On A Nutcracker We Are Making So Ill Post A Picture Of That When Its Finished. Itll Be Awhile Before That Happens Since I Take My Time With These Types Of Crafts And She Wants It Made For Her Uncle As A Gift So We Will Be Taking Great Care Making And Painting It.

Get the job done, great paints

I use these paint with an airbrush for a project, I use water to thinned the paint and a strainer to be able to spray the paint properly. The colors are not the primary colors but they are nice colors and work great . I am not a professional painter but I used common sense to get things done and I didn’t have any problems using this paint. I gave a 4 stars because I have purchased more expensive paints that are better quality but these are awesome for the price.

Coverage is poor, requires multiple coats to cover even over a primer.

Pros: Large size bottles of acrylic paint. True Matte finish. Price is reasonable for the quantity received. White, Black, Green, and Yellow are true to color. Adhesion is good on various surfaces including shiny vinyl. Drying time is fair, and about average for acrylic bottled paints. Cons: Although four of the colors are true Red and Blue are off, Red is more a cerise, and Blue is greenish. On the bottles they are labeled as; Deep Red Rubine, and Turquoise, neither is a primary color as claimed in the description, and the photos are obviously from True Red and True Blue, so it is very misleading. These paints are fairly thick and after stirring them thoroughly they remain so, however the coverage is poor requiring several coats to cover a test card with lettering printed on it in; white on various dark colors, and black on various light colors. Although adhesion is good the poor coverage makes them less than useful for my purposes which are to paint my sculptures and some models. Conclusion: I will probably keep them as I can use them as washes, and have already opened all six bottles to test them, however I will never buy Sargent brand again and will certainly not recommend them to anyone.

A decent starter set

I got these today and I must say overall I'm happy. Unlike others, mine did not leak at all, but I attribute that more to luck than actual improvements, as the foil seal on every bottle took barely a swipe of the finger to peel off, soI can definitely see how a bad jostle could cause leaking. As for the colors, I find that the blue is a bit off, not really the 'primary' blue that you should be getting in a primary set, but it does the job well enough, and gives a pleasant sky blue color. Just know its not really ideal for color mixing and will definitely mess with mixing to get a desired color. However, at the price, and going by what you get, this set is definitely worth the price for anyone looking for some entry level paints for modeling or whatever.

Not for professional or serious work.

As a color expert I can tell you these colors are not pure primary. The red has some yellow added and the blue isn't pure blue either. If they claim they ae primary they are making a false statement. They are not. The price is okay for a couple of projects and the paint does have to be shaken intensely before usage. They flow well but because they are not pure it is difficult to produce hues using usual mixing methods. It's okay for the price but I will be buyig higher end paints from now on.

Good product

Heard that this product dries up but found that was not the case. Easy to mix and clean.
