Affordable hood, might not fit perfectly, could use some DIY mods to make it fit better.

I've had this for almost a year now and have used it a few times in westport, washington. Initially I thought this was a perfect product until I started wearing it with a new wetsuit that fit me perfectly. I use to wear a suit that was one size too large. With the new perfect fitting suit, the shoulders and neck area are already very tight. Adding the folds from this hood into the wetsuit neck area really starts to feel constrictive. To the point where I can't breathe easily. Hoods like this are tough because everyone's neck length is different and fit is never perfect. I almost think that if it just ended in the middle of the neck, it would fit better. I would purchase again but I'd probably have bought a few sizes and returned the one that didn't fit. Also I am tempted to cut away the flaps at the bottom and use a neoprene sealer to close off the cut and prevent any ripping.

It works

For the price, this is hard to beat. However, fitting might be kind of difficult. I find the neck to be kind of short, which would not be an issue if it weren't for the large bib. The bib rides up into the neck of my wetsuit and scrunches up, making it easier to flush water in. When buying the hood I was thinking that the bib would help keep water from flushing down the front of my suit. In retrospect I would have purchased a hood without the large bib(or preferably a suit with built in hood)...That said, the quality of the materials and build is just fine. Not spectacular, not poor.

Didn't like it for surfing. Probably ok for other watersports

Take your two index fingers and put pressure on the back of each side of your jawbone right below your ears. Hurts, no? This hood presses on these same nerve clusters if you cinch it tight enough to keep out water. If this doesn't bother you and you like this style of hood better than the ones that go around your chin (almost every other brand), give it a try. However, also be warned that the bib is very loose around the neck: as soon as you look up or down or otherwise turn your head, the bib will pull out slightly and bunch up, collecting water like a balloon. The seals are glued, but not taped or liquid sealed, so I'd guess that durability would be an issue, too. This bib would probably be good for protecting against the wind if you're kayaking, windsurfing, or on a boat in the rain, but if you're surfing--duckdiving and getting hit by waves, I would I would recommend a higher quality, more ergonomically fitting bib.

Keeps me warm

The picture is a little misleading because it looks like it's designed to cover the lower part of your chin. My experience wearing it so far is that doing so is pretty uncomfortable. I've had two surf sessions now where I've just tucked it under my jaw and it works fine. As far as keeping me warm during a session out in cold conditions, I have no complaints. No more ice cream headache!

Great wetsuit hood

I used this all last fall and this spring for windsurfing in cold Michigan. It does an excellent job of keeping your neck and head warm. I also like that it fits much more comfortably around my chin than a Hyperflex combo hood and rashguard shirt that I also own. The combo hyperflex fits so tight on my chin it actually gives me a jaw and head ache when I wear it for very long. It is not near as much of a problem with this hood. The 3/2mm thickness was perfect too. I was on the lake as soon as the ice had melted and my neck and head never got cold.

Otherwise seems like a great hood

Too tight in the neck. I'm about a 17"+ and almost all aftermarket hoods are too tight on my neck. Otherwise seems like a great hood. I'm going to make an alteration so it fits better.

Comfortable

I have yet to use this in the water, but will update my post when I do. It fits nice and snug, but comfortable. I have never wore a hood when surfing (only diving), but I bought this to try this winter in the cold Nor Cal waters.

Good fit, does the job, crooked visor

Good fit. The adjustable cord stays out of the way. Only drawback is the visor appears to have been sewn a little crooked so no matter what I do it looks bent on my head. Pretty hard to look cool with a hood on anyway.
