Took days to get the white residue out of the water.

It took a long time to get whatever the white residue is out of the water. First day, ran it for 15 minutes at least five times. next day, same thing. Still white residue looking stuff floating in the glass. Finally, after running the water for who knows how long, the water got clear. I think I used 1/2 of the filter life just trying to get the white residue out. Never had this problem with other brands of filters and I've used them for over 20 years in different filtration systems.

It works, but water is milky white for about 30-60 seconds

It's just air bubbles, but this is the second filter I've bought and both did the same thing. The amount of air mixed in the filtered water is insane, it comes out looking like milk until the bubbles dissipate, then its crystal clear. The original Amway filter never did this, its only with these filters. After about a month the bubbles go down drastically, but its still a bit off-putting to unsuspecting people.

Seems to be doing the job. No problems with installation or usage for now. Will continue to monitor....

Threaded on easily. Used Dow-Corning Molykote 111 one the seals and threads for the first time since owning the Amway E-85 system since the late 1990's. No leaks. Glad I kept the tightening bar from the previous installations for reuse here. As others have indicated, the cartridge is slightly smaller than the OEM Amway E85 and does not have the fishnet outer layer. Upon turning on the water supply to the filter housing, I noticed absolutely NO black water carbon blast from the filter element. The water started out with a lot of haze in it. To me it tasted ok. The wife claimed the water had a slight bitter taste. We ran the clear water output from the system for about 5-7 minutes. Wife said the slightly strange taste had disappeared. Water was now also "crystal clear" with no haze. So, for the price and ease of purchase and delivery, right now I'm happy and would buy this filter element again. (I'm thinking Amway stopped selling these E85 cartridge replacements when the patent rights ran out and the knockoff' cartridges started undercutting them in price.) Last word...I seem to remember that the OEM E85 cartridge was supposed to also have a small silver impregnation in it to kill bacteria. I see nothing about this feature in the spec's for the wide range of replacement cartridges on the market today. I doubt it's still in there, given the much lower prices of the available substitutes. In such case, since this Hydronix unit replaced a 5 year old Amway original that had low usage, I'm going to replace it more often.

Water filter

I needed a replacement E-84 water filter. After looking high and low for a filter, I decided to look on Amazon. There were a few generic filters to choose from and decided to try this one. I was worried because some reviews said that the threads were wrong. It did fit my filter housing, but after threading it on, it does not feel like it’s a snug fit compared to the Amway filter. I installed it and it’s been working since.

Ok replacement

Okay replacement for original Amway water filter. Just smaller and doesn't last as long. My wife thinks our drinking water doesn't taste as good as the original Amway water filter.

It fits, it works!

Substitute for Amway E-84, slightly smaller than the original but it fits perfectly, no issues at all with easy installation, it comes with the necessary additional rubber washer. Its true it comes with zero instructions but just install exactly as the original Amway filter. I used it to wash a sink full of dishes - so maybe ten minutes of continuous running until the water became clear.

I liked filter came earlier than what it said on the order form. I used it in my Amway E-0085 water filter. It was the right size and works perfect.

Great filter, great value

I was a little hesitant to order this filter after reading some of the negative comments. Since Amway no longer produces the R85e filter, and I wanted to keep my older model water filter system, I thought I should try it out. I installed it using the existing washer (as recommended by other customers), and let the water run for about 3 minutes. I found no difference with an original filter. It works perfectly and there’s no aftertaste, and the water is crystal clear. The quality is excellent, and the cost is about a quarter of the price of the original ones. Great quality, great value... I’m very happy with my purchase and I highly recommend it.

I have been a BIG fan of Amway water filters for over 30 years, I was very happy when I found these filters, we have pretty smelly (Chlorine) water and once I filter it the water is smell free.
