Perfect for a fried egg or getting cookies off a cookie sheet
This sort of spatula - very thin metal - is crucial for using cast iron skillets, as it gets under the food instead of smearing it like a wooden or plastic one would. I had to buy a new one of these because I did abuse the previous one by using it to chop up some unfortunately stiff brownies, which caused a crease in the blade leading to its eventual demise. Use it properly as a spatula and it'll last forever.

Perfect Spatula!
The media could not be loaded. For many years I've had a very small, thin and springy, unmarked spatula that I adore and use for everything. I've searched for ages for a somewhat larger replacement but have not had any luck looking in stores. All those I find have too thick and soft a blade, that if bent, stays bent. I have no interest in plastic junk utensils as all my cookware is restaurant-quality metal. After seeing this 'all purpose turner,' I'm positive that Dexter is the maker of the one I already have and love. It has zero shortcomings and I can tell from its being the same type, that it will be super durable. Those other reviewers who've complained of the blade cracking off of the handle after years of use have got to be abusive to their food in some manner. I can't conceive of the blade breaking unless one routinely mashes the bejesus out of their food ... or possibly uses the spatula for some occasional automotive work! Another common complaint I read was about Dexter putting the sticker on the blade. Everyone should learn that MINERAL SPIRITS is THE universal solvent for stickers, tape glue and any oily mess. It most commonly comes in the form of charcoal lighter fluid for the grill, as paint thinner, tiki torch lighter fluid and a few other things. It evaporates and is harmless to the overwhelming majority of plastics. (Do not use acetone as it is harmful to many plastics and is harder to use again sticky gum. Alcohol is hit and miss.) I keep a plastic squeeze bottle of charcoal lighter fluid under the kitchen sink and use a little on a paper towel for cleaning around the stove and hood of any oily mess. (Of course, do not use in contact with any open flame!!!) In the video, I soaked the top of the sticker for 5 minutes in lighter fluid and am peeling it off. In the unintelligible remainder of the video, I'm placing the spatula on the remaining puddle of lighter fluid so I can soak the bottom half of the sticker. Mineral spirits/charcoal lighter fluid leaves zero gummy residue. Another complaint I read was about the new wood handle being rough. Once unfinished wood gets wet, wood fibers are always raised and need to be sanded off. I sand all my new new wood kitchen utensils with medium and fine paper the first 2 or 3 times of use in their new life. I look at this as a factor of the material, and am not thinking that Dexter should come to our houses and fine sand out utensils the first few times we use them. This new spatula has a more square cut of handle than my little, old one. I will make it more round-edged during the first sanding. In about 5 minutes.

Favorite Of the family!
This is the spatula that everyone in our house reaches for. We like it so much there are 2 in the drawer, so we don’t get caught without a clean one. A couple years ago for Christmas I gave them to all the extended families. Come to find out, several of those families also bought a second, so they would always have a clean one available. And they are made in the USA!

What is pictured is not what I got.
Picture shows item is a S248, I was sent a S240. They are the same size but the rivet on a S248 are larger and the stainless steel a little more flexible. The S240 is a nice unit but I thought I was buying a S248.

Dexter Russel vs Oxo Steel Lasagna Turner
Dexter Russell Steel Turner vs Oxo Steel Lasagna Turner Dexter-Russell 4-by-2.5-Inch Stainless Steel and Walnut Pancake Turner is a light weight and very thin spatula that works exceptionally well in cast iron pans. It is a very thin spatula, but has a solid and durable blade with little flex unless you press very hard. It easily turns eggs, and stirs vegetables. It is durable enough that I also use it to turn burgers and steaks. I have used the Dexter Russell very frequently for more than three years on my cast iron pans and it has held up well. The turner is thin enough to be used for some cutting tasks while cooking such as chopping meat. As a bonus it does and exceptional job at removing residue from cast iron pans, improving the surface of the pan, and keeping the pan surface smooth. You can scrape with light or medium pressure without harming the surface of a seasoned cast iron pan. I frequently use medium high heat when cooking burgers, steaks, and chops, so the surface of my pans take a beating. However, they are reasonably non stick thanks to the Russell Dexter spatula. Oxo Steel Lasagna Turner. It sells for approximately $10 at Bed Bath and Beyond, and is 20% less with coupon. This turner is heavier than the Russell Dexter. It is a thin spatula, but it is thicker than the Dexter Russell, and has almost no flex. It works well at turning eggs as well as flipping burgers and steaks, and stirring vegetables in cast iron pans. The functionality of this tool is similar to the Dexter Russell. It also is useful for scraping the surface of cast iron pans. It may not be quite as effective of removing the tiniest bits stuck on the surface of the pan as the Dexter Russel, but it does a very good job of maintaining the surface of cast iron pans. While a cursory inspection of the spatulas indicates that the Oxo appears to be sturdier and significantly heavier, I believe that the durability of the spatulas is actually near equal. Neither has a full tang handle, so over a long period of time, the handle could separate as a few people have stated in reviews. However, my Dexter Russell turner has help up very well for frequent use for more than three years. Be sure to thoroughly dry the walnut handle of the Dexter Russel turner after washing to prevent warping and separation from the metal. It is also a good idea to occasionally apply a light coat of mineral oil to the walnut handle to prevent the wood from drying out too much. Also thoroughly dry either spatula after washing to prevent rusting. If you get some rust on your spatula, there is no need to panic, you can usually remove the rust with Bar Keepers Friend. When stirring vegetables, I like to use two spatulas to simplify turning the vegetables, so I sometimes use my Dexter Russell and Oxo turner at the same time. I slightly prefer the Dexter Russel for use in pans, but I probably would prefer the heavier Oxo on an outdoor grill. In my opinion, both are excellent tools for use with cast iron pans, and I recommend that people who purchase a cast iron pan immediately purchase one of these spatulas. Cleanup and maintenance of cast iron pans is fairly easy with proper use of a good metal spatula when cooking.

Good quality, works well
I don't use it as much as I thought I would, but when I do it works well. Because it's big, you need you pan to be pretty large to get in there and flip something if the pan has edges higher than an inch.

Worth it
This item was bought to replace a much loved and well used vintage turner. This item does not disappoint. It is both firm enough and flexible enough, and seems well made to last for many years to come. I fully expect it to outlast me. Very pleased

Ideal grill tool
Great spatula. I use it on our stainless steel fry pans that do not have non-stick coatings. Works on the bbq also but if you have a big grill you will find the handle short. This is a great way to remove fried eggs etc that may be sticking a little. I own a machine shop and know my stainless - this tool is made from high quality materials, unlike many imported cheaper products. I expect it to out live me. Note the edge was finished a little rougher than I would have expected but once it is broken in that goes away. Tip: Don't leave it soaking in the sink. A house guest did this and the wood handle swelled up and came away from the metal. Once it dried out it recovered mostly so it is still okay, but the tight seal between the wood and the spine is gone.

Perfect for a cast iron griddle
Perfect for a cast iron griddle. Especially good with pancakes, fried eggs, and burgers. Some other review complained about rough handle; mine felt a little rough at the very end, but it didn't bother me. Couldn't tell if it was intentional or a manufacturing problem.
