Returning it for refund
I give it 2 stars because it operates, and it's inexpensive. If that's enough for you, then you can stop here and click Place Order. That's about all I can tell you about it, because we unboxed it, plugged it in, turned it on, noted that it lit up and liked the color temp, then unplugged it, boxed it back up for return and went to a Local Home Improvement Warehouse™ and bought something that would actually meet our needs. We saw this same light on Another Site™, but Amazon could deliver it quicker, and had a better price on it. But the Other Site™, had additional information about it, including that it can be hard wired, and comes with a conversion kit for doing that. If that's true, then either a) the conversion kit was missing from this one, or b) the plug with the ~8" of (stranded) wire with the insulation stripped off the last 3/4" was the "conversion kit", in which case you should probably only use this as a plug-in. Either of these scenarios is possible, because as the second photo will tell you the product box looked like it had been through a grain combine on the way to the warehouse. It was obviously in this condition when it was pulled, because the outside (Amazon branded) box was completely undamaged. The diffuser was displaced as well, but I was able to get it fitted correctly and the light operated for the few seconds we had it turned on. I say "operated", rather than "worked", because it was pretty clear it wouldn't "work" for us. The "conversion kit" -- if that's what it was -- might have allowed it to be hard wired (if you were willing to risk it) but as you'll note in the last photo, the power switch is on the power cable, not the body of the light itself. This means without the power cable, you have no way to turn the light on and off. If you have a wall switch that is available of that purpose (we don't) then you can probably still use it hard-wired. Otherwise, you should probably explore other options. We considered for about a minute using it as a plug-in, but it was intended to go under a cabinet as a work light over a counter, and while we had outlets close enough to use, there was still the issue of the power switch being inline. Staple it to the wall? Under the cabinet? Let it hang in a loop in the way? Who thought this was a good idea? I'm trying to picture a use case where this works, and all I can come up with is in the garage. But I don't think it's well suited to that kind of environment, so maybe a closet? If you have outlets in your closet. Outlets high enough to reach with a power cord no more than 24" long. I suppose you could mount it vertically on the wall... In short, it was a roll of the dice when I ordered it, and it's going back this weekend.
