Just Hope You Never Need To Use Your Hi Lift Jack

Unfortunately, this is a horribly engineered product by Surco. Their aluminum Safari roof rack systems are quite good and components can be added to increase load capacity. However, the jack carrier is relatively useless. The system consists of two individual bolt-on brackets: One secures the base of the Hi-lift jack and has a welded lower support and the second bracket secures the vertical stem or tower. With the jack in place the lower support of the base bracket does not allow the two 1/2" through bolts to align with holes in jack stem and bracket base plate. Altering or bending the lower support to provide alignment of the bolts will crack the powder paint coating. That notwithstanding, and all were in alignment, I would not relish the idea of needing the jack, on or off-road, finding a means to reach the rack, grab (2) two 3/4" wrenches to totally remove (3) three 1/2" bolts with nylon lock nuts, to remove the jack, even on a good day under the best of conditions. Then change the tire or winch your vehicle and re-secure your jack. Plus I believe the weight of the jack with brackets mounted to the rear of the safari rack will shortly create aluminum fatigue and rack failure. If mounted, install at side of rack...and for safety sake...not the driver's side.

Surco 1108 Jack Carrier

Good product. Mounts to my Surco 50x60 roof basket easily but these jacks are pretty heavy and cumbersome to mount by yourself, so a helper is nice. Only thing is be careful not to torque down the bolts too tight or else the mounts start to bend, causing the paint on the mounts to crack. Once bolted down everything is very solid, no fear of my Hi-Lift jack coming off.

it works but I recommends different bolts. I double nuts the bolts too the back plate to keep the bolts from falling out when removing the jack and I use wing nuts, drilled a hole through one bolt and put on a lock.

This is a good product. The worst part is the price is high. The funny part is the attachments for Surco products are way stronger & made better than the racks.

Looks great, works great. Rivets are a little cheap but work fine.
