smells wire burning and it took too long to cook, also Amazon did not replace it because it was purchase as an open box item. I contact Presto as the representative suggested and because it was purchase trough amazon as an open box item they did not want to replace it. my advice do not purchase use items from amazon. they wont give you a replacement or a warranty for the item.

makes superb frozen fries, easy to use and clean, takes up a lot of storage space though
This is basically a small counter top convection oven and that is it, but for people like me who do not have a convection oven this is really nice. I think the only negative I can really says is that it is large and storage in a somewhat small kitchen is an issue with me. It is really easy to use and the clean up is super easy too. The instructions are pretty straight forward and useful, I mean when it says that the buttons are meant to be touch and you don't have to push down that was very true and I was actually glad I read that first. I got this because I want to make French fries but I also want to fry chicken and lightly breaded sunfish filets. So far I have not gotten around to trying the chicken or fish, but I have played around with fries and this is how it went. First I tried home made fries. This is more of what I wanted to do because I am particular about my ingredients. I followed the instructions, kept the amount between 1 and 1.5 pounds, and the first photo I posted is the results. Everyone loved them, I had to make a second batch right away because they wanted more that's how much they liked them. My issue was that they did not cook evenly. I shook them every 8 minutes like the instructions said too but still the ones closest to the outside cooked a lot more and much faster than ones on the inside and after 24 minutes I had fries where some where almost over cooked and some where not cooked enough. Family still loved them. I think if the potatoes were precooked at least some then it would be just a matter of crisping them up. Next I bought frozen sweet potato fries (which I had tried before but they never really turned out that great in my conventional oven, so I quit trying, and one kid wouldn't eat them then anyway) and this AirDaddy frier made them come out wicked excellent! (see second photo). Instructions say 1 pound to 1.5 pounds but the bag was only 15 ounces, the smaller amount may be why they turned out better than my homemade fries. They cooked way more evenly, got nice and crispy on the outside, and even the kid that didn't like them before actually asked for seconds this time. My husband was really impressed at how well this worked on the frozen fries. I am not sure great fries are enough to warrant the storage struggle though (if you have a large kitchen no worries for you then), it will earn its keep if it does a great job on my chicken and fish. Simply put this does a better than great job with frozen fries as long as you keep it to 1 pound only at a time. This small capacity to get the fries to cook best coupled with my storage issues of the unit is why I give it only 4 stars instead of 5.

I'm convinced
Though I really wanted to try an air fryer, I wasn't convinced that I would ever actually need one, or even use one on a regular basis. But the Presto AirDaddy quickly became a go-to appliance in my kitchen. It has a learning curve, but since then I've discovered that most air fryers do. They're all a bit different, all quirky in their own ways. Certain recipes that seem like no-brainers prove to work only imperfectly in a different air fryer. The best example I can give is the hard-cooked egg. After seeking out a handful of instructions on how to hard cook eggs in the air fryer, I tried one that promised to be the absolute best choice. I got a soft/medium egg out of the deal. And that's fine, it was good to know how to do a soft-cooked egg, but I was wanting deviled eggs at the time. A bit of experimentation found me the sweet spot in both temperature and time that produced the perfectly hard-cooked egg that peeled like a dream, and had absolutely no discoloration around the yolk. I will never boil another egg again, this is just too simple, too foolproof once you have the trick of it. In a similar vein, there are some things that are well suited to being cooked in an air fryer, and some that are absolutely not. Frozen spanikopita (spinach pie) is emphatically not a good choice, possibly because the pastry is so delicate that what doesn't become brittle gets rubbery, and the cheese drips out, making a mess of the basket. Though it looks like there are auto cook buttons on the front, those are just guides to cooking temperatures. All the important stuff is done in the same way it's done on your oven, with temperature and time controls. Turn it on, choose the temperature, choose the time, and let it do it's thing. Couldn't be simpler. The only problem I had with it was that the basket doesn't easily release from the basket drawer. It's instinctive to press the release button and lift, but I found that unless I tipped the basket down and back while pressing the release button, I couldn't get the basket out. Wrestling with a hot basket drawer is not fun, so learn your unit's quirks before you cook anything. Be sure you know how to put it together and take it apart. Clean up is dead easy. Even with the spanikopita mess I only needed to fill the drawer with water and a bit of soap, and let it sit for a while. The cooked on cheese came right off, and the fryer looks as good as new, ready to cook more eggs, tater tots, and chicken tenders. I really like this thing, and freely admit that I was wrong about how much I was likely to use it.
