Fun to do with a 6yo

I got this for my son or Christmas and he loved it. It has three crystals to grow so we were able to do one each week for three weeks. It wasn't a one and done present, which I liked. He had fun watching them grow over the course of a week and was excited when we took the crystals out of the growing cup and he was able to place it over the included LED light to make it glow. Each crystal grew a little differently than the other two, which was cool. The green one has shorter, thicker crystals while the blue one has longer, thinner crystals. So it was interesting that respect too. There are cheaper versions of these kits available on here that claim to grow 2x more than these but I trust Nat Geo more than some Chinese no name knock-off. Who knows what chemicals are in those. Anyway, these make a great night light for his room. The LED light stand has a few different settings for brightness, color, and flash pattern. It's really quite a nice kit for a science interested 6yo Pro tip: I found that covering the cup while it grew made them grow bigger. I also opted to use a small glass pyrex bowl instead of the silicon cup provided. It offered a better look at it while it grew

Lots of fun & turned out great

My 9 year old son and I had lots of fun with this! The only time he really needed my help was with the boiling water part. We grew ours for 12 days in the kitchen window & didn’t touch them at all until the day we took them out. We used solo cups for 2 of them and the growing chamber for the other. It was fun to see the growth each day!

Easy and quick

I bought this for use in my HS Earth Science class. The students for whom I bought this are 14-15. They were really excited for this project and they run in to check the growth everyday. Crystals started growing the second day. I'm pleased with the lovely colors and ease of use. Very good project even for older kids

Rock solid fun little project with your kiddos

We had success growing all 3 of the crystals and let them grow in our basement where it is pretty dark, no movement and lights on only when we are down there on the weekends with the temp always around 65 – 70 degrees. We followed the included instructions but then used other buyer’s tips (reviewer, Adamo, July 12, 2020) they got directly from the company. The kit comes with 1 growing cup but we used plastic cups (16 oz solo cups) so the crystals could be removed super easy when done growing. We let them grow approx 3 weeks and when the solvent in the cups were almost gone and crystals had grown pretty tall, we gently removed them from the solo cups and let them sit/air dry over night before setting on lighted stand and all worked out great! (reviewer, Adamo, July 12, 2020) they got directly from the company; Here are a few tips to growing great crystals- • With evaporation the solvent creeps up the walls of a glass vessel. Much better containers are made of polypropylene or Teflon, (a plastic yogurt cup or solos cup works well) The solvent doesn't creep up these types of containers. This also makes it a bit easier to remove crystals from the bottom after they have grown. • stir for 30 seconds in one direction then 30 seconds in the opposite direction • Stability is key so place your crystals somewhere with as little movement or temperature variation as possible. • The crystals do not need light to grow so you could place them inside a cabinet if that is easier. If you chose this method, you may want to leave them an extra couple days. (we leave ours for 30 days resulting in 1 1/2"-2" points)

Crystal powder busted

I giving 3 stars because other then the fact the powder was busted everywhere it looks decent and my daughter was excited to try it. I hope with the remaining powder it will still work.
