So much better than coiling up the hose in a pile
This thing isn't too hard to assemble, but it can take a little tinkering to get everything properly tight without overdoing it. Just make sure that you have a heavy duty and flexible hose to go with it. If you use something that is a little too stiff, it tends to kink slightly as you are initially winding it on. The reel is very well made and sturdy. We wound 150 feet of heavy rubber hose and it handles it like a champ. The weight of the hose actually makes it easier to crank back on again. The only hard part is starting out if you have the whole thing completely spun out. then the first few turns are hard to keep the cart straight. But otherwise it is very nice overall.

A well-made hose reel/cart which does exacatly what it's supposed to
It came on time (maybe a day early) and despite obvious damage to the box, it arrived undamaged, too (and the vendor already contacted me when I posted that on the "how did we do about shipping" page and was VERY anxious to please). Because I had read the reviews I wanted to protect from possible rust, so before assembling it I applied 3 coats of an exterior-grade rust-proofing enamel, waiting a day between applications to make sure they were dry. Then I put it together (and doing so took maybe 20-30 minutes max - but I do have a shop and all the necessary tools, so YMMV), and there were absolutely no problems in assembling it. I was disappointed that the connector to which the user attaches a garden hose was soldered on at an angle, so it appears to "weave" as I roll the hose out or roll it back in. But this is only a cosmetic issue and it really isn't a problem. I have 200 feet of 3/4" hose on it and it all fits, but I couldn't put another 100 feet on there if I wanted to - not without using a smaller hose. There is one minor problem, but it isn't a showstopper. When the hose does not yet have water in it, the force of winding it onto the reel makes the hose cart rock, and at that point I wish I had "foot rest" on it so that I could hold it still. But after that, even if I have only 50 feet or so of hose left on the reel, when I go wind the rest of the hose back onto it, that doesn't occur strongly enough to be an issue. Overall I love this and it works exactly as decribed, and I'd buy it again. Definitely recommended.

Takes lots of tools to assemble.
According to the instructions, it was supposed to take a half hour to put this thing together, but it actually took six days. There is a galvanized fitting that attaches to two brass fittings. I have more tools than most homeowners, but I did not have a crescent or slip wrench that was slender enough to secure one of the brass fittings while I screwed it onto the galvanized piece. My neighbor installs commercial HVAC systems, and it took his help and the use of his enormous bench vise and several tries with several tools to get the two pieces attached. Then, this assembly would not screw onto the hose reel, with or without the Teflon tape that came included. After an hour of carefully trying to get the threads started, I called customer service. They admitted that the hose reel had bad threads, and were very helpful about FedEx-ing a replacement reel. The new one screwed on easily. Why, oh why, can't the manufacturer pre-assemble those two brass and one galvanized fittings? It took about six sizes of crescent and slip wrenches and drivers to assemble this thing. Why not include a precise list of needed tools? I like that the tires will not go flat, and this reel does hold plenty of hose. It is easy to push about. I just wish that the manufacturer was more concerned with quality control and ease of assembly than with profits.

Works great
It arrived early and was easy to assemble. It works great and is sturdy. I especially like the no-flat tires, because tires were the first thing to wear out on our old cart. I have one minor concern -- our previous hose cart had the garden hose attachment point routed to inside of the reel. That was a much better design. For this cart, and many others, you have to make a big loop of hose from the attachment point up over the reel and back to the bottom to start your first wind. This is no problem once you have the hose wound, but not nearly as easy to start winding. This makes it take longer and requires special care getting it started each time after you have pulled the hose all the way out. If your hose is long enough that you rarely take it all the way out, this is no problem at all.

Works really well!
Only problem is the washer by the crank. It needs a bigger one. Otherwise very good item

Better than anything plastic
This hose reel was so much better than anything plastic. It may be more expensive but you don't have to buy a new one every year.

Good Quality Parts
The main reason I only gave it 4 stars is because it needs some kind of foot support to hold the cart whilst reeling in the hose. Which can be easily fabricated and adapted. The parts on the cart of are good quality and easily replaced if necessary. Love the plastic wheels, no need for air and they never deflate. Holds probably 150ft. of hose, though might be harder to reel in. I use 100ft and had a bit of a time without a foot support.

It met my needs!
It arrived quickly and seems to be very sturdy. I liked the fact that all the working parts are metal and won't easily break. Let's keep our fingers crossed! Thanks!

Easy to Assemble, Solid so Far
Firstly the review of the packaging and assembly. The package comes in a 2'x2'x2 box (approximately) and it was surprisingly light. The reel was nicely packaged and there were no missing elements. Assembly took approximately 30 minutes, and you only need 2 crescent wrenches. But I made a modification so it took longer. What I did was I made a drum out of a sheet of aluminum around the steel rods that the hose wraps around. Why? Some have complained that the hose kinks around the metal rods. With a smooth drum problem solved. Just cut a piece of aluminum (they are in the air duct section of the hardware store, cut it to size (a rectangle, cause you're making a cylinder) using a pair of aluminum cutters, wrap it around the rods, tape in place temporarily then use screws to secure. The build quality is high. All welds are solid. I was wary because there are a lot of imitation products out there (Yardworks looking at you) that are reported to inferior quality. With the drum in place the rolling action is perfect and the hose rolls up neatly and releases neatly. I used a Flexilla 100' hose which is slightly soft but high quality. I teflon taped all joints and I hand tightened all of them. Nothing leaked. Lithium greased the moving parts, no squeaks, all is smooth. So far so good. I think the test of a good reel is how many winters it can withstand. I have had a lot of hose reels in my life and they last typically about 2 years if left outside. So I've concluded that nothing quite stands up to Canadian winters in Ontario so I will be moving this inside in the offseason. The spray gun end does dangle on the ground, and I wish it had a hose guide to get it off the ground but I guess that's a quibble.

Really solid and robust reel cart
Assembly was well thought out and fun to do. It was fairly quick since it was well documented. My only complain is that the assembly for the rubber handle were a bit finicky. Also the D shafts spins inside its housing. Its likely that the tolerance were a bit off for that part. However, it only affected assembly. Functionality is untouched. Construction wise, it is a really good mechanical build. The engineers/technicians behind it did a really good job so kudos to them! I'm sure this will last me a lifetime

Home grade for sure
Quality is average. Would have sent it back, but when I went to process that, it was going to cost me $67 to do so... so be aware. It’ll do, but I would not buy again. Should have shopped around and visually looked at one. The tires are attached using a full length axle - not as the pictures show. Only last picture is truly accurate. Haven't put hose on, or tried it yet. I’m hoping it doesn’t leak at the swivel fitting. And as others stated, the handle attachment point sucks. Thinking of pulling some wooden doweling inside tubing.

Easy to put together
As a person with not much mechanical ability and with arthritis in my hands, I found this garden hose caddy quite easy to assemble. I did need someone to tighten all the bolts because I don't have much strength in my hands. When it was all assembled, there were no leaks (but we did have to add extra teflon tape to supplement what was supplied). The caddy arrived in timely fashion. I am very happy with how easy it is to wind the hose on to the reel with just a small amount of guidance with my free hand. Great purchase! Thanks. Wanda
