Nice quality, somewhat pricey

Anytime I'm outdoors for more than 10 or 15 minutes, I have to wear a sun hat. This one is comfortable and does the job. I wish it had been a bit less expensive; it was about a third more than a sun hat from the same brand that I bought for my husband.

Perfect to protect eyes from sun

This hat is light as a feather although the bill of the hat is larger than usual. I chose this design to protect my eyes as I’m having cataract surgery in a couple of weeks. After this surgery is complete it’s very important to protect your eyes from the sun from now on. Sunglasses are great but this hat adds another level of protection.

Lightweight and packable

Purchased for A thru hike of the Arizona Trail. The large brim and neck and ear covering is going help protect from the desert sun. Only thing missing is a way to secure the back flap up when not needed. I added some velcro to secure up and out of the way.

Great sun hat that's surprisingly NOT HOT

Looks cute on a woman. This hat is surprisingly not hot. I was initially concerned because one reviewer says it's hot. To my surprise it's quite breathable. It doesn't actively cool your head, but it keeps you feeling much cooler when you are under the sun than without any hat. I think the white fabric helps reflect a lot of the sun's direct heat. The flap has 2 layers - the inside layer is darker, same as the underside of the brim. I thought the flap may trap heat, but it actually keeps your neck cool because the stiffer double-layered fabric doesn't drape directly on your neck, thus leaving some space between your neck and the flap to allow plenty of air circulation. I have a pony tail and the flap keeps it away from sticking to my neck. Definitely cooler than without the flap. The flap isn't long so make sure you wear a top w/ high enough neck line. My head and neck sweat a ton so it's impossible to keep sunscreens on. With this hat I can skip wearing sunscreens on the back of my neck and ears. In the front forehead area that's a thick strip of fabric that's designed to wick sweat. I normally don't like sweat bands because they tend to trap heat and make me hot, but this hat's partial sweat band doesn't seem to contribute to overheating. On really hot days (over 90 F) I simply spray cool water on the sweat band so the wet strip will actively cool my forehead and keep me feel more comfortable when working out in the hot sun. The crown fabric is a bit stiff due to water repellent coating but it's not overly hot and it can double as a rain hat when the rain isn't heavy. The mesh sides provide plenty of ventilation so it's quite comfortable as long as there's some kind of breeze or if you are on the move. I bought the medium size and it's plenty big for me. The back adjustment as well as the neck cord keep the hat on me even in the wind. there's no velcro to mess up with your hair, and the pony tail hole is rare for hat of this style. I have long hair so I thread my hair into the hole as a loose pony tail. It keeps my neck cool. the brim is wide enough in the front but won't block my view. The problem I have with most sun hats are (1) too big; (2) too deep in the crown area or brim too low that they will block my vision; and (3) too hot because I am a big head-sweater. This hat doesn't have any of these problems. It's a great design with lots of attention to details that make it super practical and still decent looking. Note that this is a sport hat and not a high fashion statement. I wear it for hiking/running or doing outdoor sports when I need to keep my head cool and vision clear. It goes well with my athletic clothing. More over I can keep it on while driving because there's no back brim to hit my car's headrest, and it's also compatible with high back pack. I bought another SA hat (The Lotus hat) for non-sporty casual occasions as it goes better with my casual dresses. SA makes great sun hats for different occasions.

Love this hat!

This is my third hat like this. One I use in my backyard; my "junk hat". I bought a newer one and wore it when I went out and usually left it in the car so I could use it. Then I lost it. I think I clipped it to my purse, but I guess I didn't do it right, and it fell off. I remember I was in a rush and it was a windy day. Of course nobody said anything or turned it in, so my $35 hat was lost forever. It is a perfect hat for me because I don't like a hat with a full circular brim. I have one of those, and when I wear it, usually to my backyard, I bang into the door or doorframe as I'm coming or going because the darned thing is wider than I am. Plus you can't put your head against a chair or wall and lay back. I love the neckstrap on this, it has a little plastic squeeze tightener so you can wear it loosely or tight if it is at all windy. There is a plastic clip on the back of the hat, which is attached to the fabric that sizes the hat to your desired size for the day, which is what I use to clip it to my purse. When I do that from now on, I will be sure to do it right because I don't want to have to buy this hat again unless I have to. I love the purple color because it is not dark or too light, which would show dirt. I wear a hat like this to prevent premature aging, which I think I'm doing a pretty good job of since recently someone told me she thought I was in my early 30s. I had a good laugh at that because I'm 46. I have been using these hats for about eight years, and will keep seeking them out when I need to buy another one.

Great Hat

I bought this hat for long excursions on my paddleboard. Being a person with long hair the hole in the back is a really nice feature. The hat fits great and is adjustable. The brim is wide enough to shade your face and ears but not so wide it gets knocked off while doing a steady SUP stroke, it's also flexible enough that if you do knock it the hat stays put and your peripheral view is unobstructed, which I really like out on the water. Chin strap is comfortable and easy to adjust. It also had good air flow around my neck face and head. Very lightweight and great for out on the water. More colors please!!

I really like this hat. The brim is not the same width all the way, and it begins to taper almost immediately. If you are looking for a hat with a brim that is the same width all around, and a ponytail holder, try the Sundancer model. The ponytail hole is a great feature. If you do not have hair where the hole is, you can always use a safety pin or sew the hole shut. The tail could be slightly longer as it will not protect the sides of your neck or shoulders as much as the back of your neck. I removed a star because the brim was folded twice into an envelope for over a week while the hat was shipped. As a result, there are two creases (what looks like a pleat) in the centre of brim that will not go away. However, I learned that you can pour hot water from a kettle onto the creases, which should expand the air bubbles that are inside the foam. Be careful that the water is not boiling as there is a slight chemical smell after. I poured maybe a litre of near boiling water onto the creases and after 10 or 20 minutes, the area looks almost half normal. I will try with a blow dryer after. I did remove one star for the damage caused by shipping, but the price I paid on Amazon was only $40 Canadian including shipping. It was a much better deal than the Sunday Afternoons website, which sells the same hat for $46 Canadian and also requires Canadians to order $99 before free shipping. Overall very happy, and I think this is a stylish sporty hat. It looks better on me than the Sundancer, but has less coverage.

They bent brim to ship it!

I like the hat unfortunately it was crammed into an envelope and the brim is bent. It is not bendable and ruined! What the heck is wrong with you people? DO YOU THINK YOU CAN UNBEND PLASTIC? WRONG! it has a permanent crease!!!!!!

awesomely practical choice

Many features make this an incredibly practical and versatile hat: 1. The adjustment on the chin strap can be tightened with a single hand - good since I can't always free up both hands quickly in a sudden gust of wind. 2. The ponytail hole can be used as a secure handle when not being worn (e.g., inside a store) and when holding a bunch of other stuff. 3. There's not so much material in the back (nor is the back stiff) such that this fits perfectly under hoods when it gets colder. It's still useful since the visor keeps more rain and sun off your face than the hood alone.
