Door knob has a good texture and feel to it. Quiet locking mechanism and seems to be very well designed and made. The ability to rekey it's great and is very easy to do. Definitely worth it! I will be buying again to replace all current door knobs.

Problems at the drive-in

I bought one of these (probably a different model, it was just the door knob) six years ago when I bought my house to replace the garage door knob that was falling apart. I remember that installation was smooth and super simple. My front door has a deadbolt and a doorknob, both are keyed, and I had a locksmith rekey them so one key will do all the doors in the house; didn't have to pay the locksmith to rekey the garage door though :-) The doorknob and the deadbolt on the front door started sticking, and they don't match the color/style of the rest of the house, so I went ahead and bought this kit to fix both problems instead of calling out a locksmith. Problem is that my front door is steel (or at least metal coated, I can't drill or chisel on it) and the existing holes for the latch and bolt are "drive-in" (meaning there is not a faceplate that screws into the edge of the door that holds the latch or deadbolt in place). I figured there would be some way to remove the faceplate from the bolt and latch that came in this kit, but if there is (and the directions for the deadbolt seem to show this is possible, or maybe just that the same instructions will work for kits with drive-in and regular style bolts) I can't figure it out. The Kwikset website has a page that indicates a way to attach a faceplate to a drive-in latch, but not a way to remove the faceplate from the latch to convert it to the drive-in style. Luckily, the existing knob and deadbolt are ancient Kwikset products. I just left the existing deadbolt in place and installed the inner and outer assemblies without trouble. In fact, the biggest set of trouble I had was getting the new strike plate for the deadbolt lined up correctly. It's still a little off, but it works a million times better than it did previously, and the key will actually turn! After reading the other reviews on here I also double-checked that the SmartKey rekey system would work with my existing key for the garage door, and it does. When I moved on to replace the doorknob though, the existing latch seems to be incompatible with the holes/bolts/posts on the exterior handle. They're just a hair off, so I can't fit it into place with the old latch. I found some replacement Kwikset drive-in latches that can be ordered on Amazon, but their product descriptions leave much to the imagination, so I really don't know if I'd be buying something else I'd end up just throwing away or attempting to return (I've never needed or attempted to return a product to Amazon). I tried calling the help line included in the box, but they're only open Monday through Saturday. I'll try giving them a call tomorrow and see what they can do. I have my fingers crossed that maybe they'll just send me what I need free of charge, since the product description and the box itself don't indicate anything about drive-in style latches being unsupported. UPDATE Dec 8, 2013: I've had to call twice now to the Kwikset help line. Both times they were very helpful, but apparently I wasn't descriptive enough or the agent didn't fully understand my request the first time around. They shipped me a drive-in deadbolt latch for free, but they didn't include the drive-in latch for the regular doorknob part of the kit; I called again and they're going to ship me one. They consider it a covered warranty service because the product is not correctly configured for my door, which is really nice; unfortunately the turnaround time from the call to receive the product is over a week, since they apparently have to order it from the factory for these situations.

support seems good by company. Compared to old knobs, as you grip these knobs, the space behind it is cramped, which makes it a little awkward for even normal size hands. Seem well made though. I rekeyed it to my old keys from old knobs. My old key fits a bit too tight in one non-deadbolt knob that I had to flip the key cylinder on, so a little bit of a pain removing key sometimes. Perhaps the vendor can comment on this?

Awesome customer support

Bought 3 sets of these. Color and quality are very nice. Fairly easy to install if you follow the instructions. Smart key technology is super simple for keying all your locks to use the same key. Had some issues with one door handle but called kwikset and they replaced the part.

Expected a little more.

It indicates that it can be mounted on a door that opens either side but it my case it only installs with the keyhole upside down. I also don't like the plastic around the keyhole as I find that it looks cheap. The mechanism is smooth and the screws provided were too long for my frame (due to a built in window) but I appreciate that they are that long for extra security.

No drive in collar for the deadbolt and only fits wood doors.

Beware if you have a metal door, this won’t work. I has the drive in collar for the door handle, but not the latch. We had to customize each piece to fit our doors. Totally ridiculous.
