Sizing

Realistic looking and good price
I chose this costume for my daughter because it was one of very few I found with a tail that actually looks like a mermaid tail. A few of the reviews I read commented on the poor quality/sizing/lastability of this item but I think it is excellent value for money at a fraction of the cost of similar items I considered. The quality of the fabric isn't so good as in more expensive fancy dress items (e.g. official disney products etc) but my daughter will only be wearing it around the house for dressing up so I'm not too worried if it needs patching over time or she can't walk around all day in it. It is worth noting that my 4 1/2 yr old daughter is very petite for her age (bottom 10% centiles on height and weight: She is 99cm/39in tall, 30lb/13.6kg) and this item (size "small") fits her well - so it may be more restrictive on a average build/larger child particularly at the older end of the age range stated. My reason for not giving 5 stars is mostly because, although she loves the details of the dress, she was disappointed not to have a "tail" at the back of the dress also, only at the front, and also because, like some other reviewers, I find the sizing in the amazon advert difficult to judge and perhaps misleading.

Very cute costume but arrived with a tear and runs small
I bought this costume for my 7 year old and ordered a medium (8-10). It runs very narrow and long. It also arrived with a tear in the side seam. We did not have time to return it, plus my daughter really loved the shinny fabric and wanted to be a mermaid that did not resemble Aerial. She ended up wearing it for Halloween and it looked cute. Be aware it runs narrow in the body. It just fit her and I was able to slide the skirt up and fasten it with a blue hair rubber band in the back to keep her tail from dragging in front of her. I included a picture of the sizing on the package, it says Medium size 8-10 for 5-7 years.

this was so cute. I agree with the reviews that the tail is very long. I had to pin it up in the front a bit so my daughter could walk around when she went trick or treat. The tail is also a bit tight but hey it's a mermaid tail it should be a bit tight. The costume is so darn cute and truly for a kids costume it's fairly well constructed. My daughter still wears it around the house a bit when she wants to be a mermaid. My advice is go a bigger size than you are thinking so there is room in the legs and just pin up the front of the tail so your little mermaid can walk around a bit.

Made for a very tall and skinny child...
I bought this for my 3 year old, knowing the reviews. My daughter is in the 95% for height (40.5" tall) and 75% for weight (35lbs), so I thought I would give it a shot. It still had to be taken up about 2 inches. It is pretty easy to alter though - I am a VERY novice seamstress and could make it look half decent with a quick hand stitch at the waist. She wore it to a party and after she arrived and wanted to play, she just needed to pull the tighter skirt up so the tail was around her waist (she was wearing pants underneath I don't think there are many mermaid costumes out there that are easy to walk in all night! I was pleased with the fabric and construction of the costume. My daughter LOVED it!

Very tight!
Beautiful costume and my daughter loves it but it runs very small. Well, let me elaborate - perhaps it doesn't run super small but when it runs small and is that tight then it winds up being very tight. We bought it to be used as a Halloween outfit (which we will still do) but we may have to put a small slit up the side to make it easier to walk. The dress definitely won't last long after Halloween as a dress up outfit since it is SO tight and the seams are rather flimsy. To even get into the dress I had to help my daughter and go very, very slowly. It was rather a funny situation but frustrating for my daughter. This fits a lot like a Jessica Rabbit dress. TIGHT.

Very skinny and long not true to size.
I love this mermaid outfit however I have to give it bad review due to it being so skinny and long. My daughter in picture is almost 4 she is tall and skinny. She can wear a 5t in length however she is barely a 4t around. We bought the mermaid outfit in size (4-6) it is really slim cut basically a skinny 4 with little to no stretch however it is a long 6 on length. My daughter is thrilled and I can definitely alter it enough so she doesn’t trip over the tail however if you kid is not super slim and long would not recommend.

Looks great in photos
The costume runs thin and long. Fortunately, my 5 year old is very thin and as tall as a 7 year old, so it fit her well, but I still had to pin up the fin a bit. If your child has sensitivity to scratchy material, the sleeves will bother them, but I was able to fit a t-shirt underneath the costume and cut off the sleeves. My daughter is very sensitive to scratchy material. The material isn't terrible; my daughter is just really sensitive.

Small (3-4) fits a size 6
My daughter is a size 6 and the small fits her. It's as well made as you'd expect a Halloween costume to be. I don't like the material on the top because the Velcro catches it and pulls it. A snap would have been better. She loves it.

Very beautiful and Great quality as you can expect from imported from USA...at the same price I had got another mermaid dress from Dubai earlier which was a Disney one...and this one beats it..why go physical store when you can get it better at same price from Amazon!!
