Performed like a champ
After seeing all the poor reviews of the many different 12v powered coolers available here on Amazon, I was a little bit hesitant to purchase one myself. This one was the one with the least negative reviews, so I decided to give it a shot. I'm happy to report that the cooler worked well for my entire trip, covering 3 weeks, 3 days on the road. I was actually impressed with how cold it kept my drinks; it worked better than I'd expected, even on days when I had to leave it in a hot car for short amounts of time. At the end of some days, there was even ice on the cooling vanes. Some issues of note: This type of cooler is GREAT for keeping things cool, but not so much for cooling down something that's warm. If you possibly can, pre-cool your food and drinks in a fridge, and run the cooler for 30-60 min before loading it. If you can't do that, put something else frozen in with the warm stuff, like some of those freezer gel packs or bricks, or even frozen bottled water. That will help to cool things down more quickly. Don't use loose ice, though; if enough of it melts, the water will block the cooling vanes, which pretty much makes the cooler useless (and if the water level gets high enough, it could damage the cooler's motor). The cooler doesn't do anything about humidity, so if it's a humid day, or you put items with condensation in the cooler, you'll probably end up with a small amount of water in the bottom of the cooler when you unload it again later. Placing a small towel in the cooler helps. Leaving one underneath the aforementioned cooling vanes when you unload the cooler overnight is good too; that way if any ice formed in there, it gets soaked up when it melts. Wiping it out nightly is definitely a good idea. Speaking of which, those cooling vanes have some slightly sharp edges. Be careful when wiping around the bottom of the vanes; they could scrape a knuckle pretty good. The unit cools with circulated air, so there has to be at least some room for air to circulate inside it. You can't pack this cooler completely full. Not a huge deal for me, but if you have a need to haul that much stuff in a powered cooler, then you're going to need a bigger one. Also, loading the cooler with cans is slightly awkward, because the cooling unit is in the middle of one side of the cooler, and 'sticks out' into the interior by about 3cm. I squeezed in some bottled water, since the plastic bottles are a little bit 'squishy', to keep my cans from rattling and sliding in the cooler. Finally, it's kind of cheap that the unit doesn't come with a wall adapter. I'm not complaining too hard, but unless you plan on staying someplace with a fridge every night while on your trips, you're going to need the optional adapter. You can't leave this thing hooked up overnight in a vehicle; it'll drain the battery. Otherwise, yeah, it was great. I'd recommend it to anyone considering traveling with a cooler. It sure beats dealing with an ice chest.

VERY IMPRESSIVE. You won't go wrong with a KOOLATRON cooler.
EXCELLENT PRODUCT. IMPRESSIVE construction and performance. Upon receiving the cooler in June 2016, I tested it at home to determine what I could expect during a three week road trip where I would have it plugged into my SUVs 12volt battery system. My home test consisted of plugging the empty cooler into my home 110 volt current, using a Stronker 96watt 110v to 12v Power Converter which is itself an excellent well built product. After powering up the box using this power converter I waited 45 minutes to allow it to cool and then I placed a battery operated highly accurate digital thermometer on the bottom of the cooler. Fifteen minutes later I opened the box and read the thermometer, which showed that the interior of the box was exactly 40 degrees cooler than the outside air surrounding the cooler. The cooler then went on an 18 day road trip in July, 2016, running constantly 24 hours a day and performed flawlessly. I would buy this again in a heartbeat. I compared Koolatron to several other brands before purchase, looking at those other coolers, and the Koolatron brand is far superior to other available choices in the under $200. category. Koolatron has been making coolers for over 30 years and has several different sizes so you'll find a size that fits your needs. Then match a power converter to the current draw of the cooler you select. I like my power converter to have a rated capacity of twice what the cooler will draw, so that the converter is just loafing along when operating the cooler. I chose the 96 watt power converter made by Stonker, also available from Amazon. It is perfect for the P27 and gets warm but never hot when powering the P27. No more ice packs to try to refreeze each night, no more water to pour off from melting ice. PERFECT ! Some have complained about this cooler’s poor cooling ability, “wouldn’t even cool our drinks” for example. I think they have failed to understand what they bought; this cooler is NOT a refrigerator like at home, having an internal fan that circulates the cool air around the items inside. This type of cooler has only a cooling plate that gets cold when 12 volts is applied to it. But that does creat a cold environment inside the cooler. You must do your part by putting into it drinks, and other items, that are ALREADY COLD. This cooler WILL keep them cold. It never failed to do so for me, day after day after day. What I omitted from my above original review is the following. During that 18 day road trip during the summer of 2016 I ran that cooler 24 hours a day by doing this: at the end of each day I put the cooler into my motel room and kept it running by using the 120 volt power converter to power the cooling. Then when we traveled by SUV we plugged the cooler into the vehicle’s 12 volt battery and ran it until we again stopped for that evening. Thus it ran constantly 24/7 for 18 consecutive days. Even though those were “summer” thus hot days, since the cooler was in an air conditioned vehicle, at about 72 degree interior, I calculated that a 40 degree temperature drop, this specific cooler’s tested capability, would allow me to keep already frozen items at the cooler’s bottom and non frozen items higher up in the cooler. And it DID WORK that way. Having a new high capacity vehicle starting battery when I started the trip allowed me to leave the car for up to an hour and keep the cooler running without concern of being unable to start the vehicle when I returned. Attention to these details made this a perfect COOL TRIP.

Way to cold for anything over one day
It’s great for one day use. I truck and sometimes spend three or four days on the road. If I don’t prop the lid open a bit or unplug it time to time it will freeze all my contents. No mater where I put it. I had a smaller one for years and it was great so I needed a bigger one so I searched out koolatron brand but ended up disappointed in the end. If it was adjustable temp it would be great

It works in a campervan in hot weather conditions
It kept my fresh meat cool enough to keep fresh for 3 days at the time the weather was very very hot and sunny... plugged into a 12v supply in a campervan... used a little bit of juice from the leasure battery but the results were worth having to turn over the engine for a bit daily to recharge leisure battery...I'm happy with the purchase

It works fine.
This little cooler works fine. However, it uses the full amperage all the time. We installed it in a small cruising boat. During the day, when the sun shines, our solar panel can keep the battery charged (gr 24 AGM) At night we have to shut it off. I installed an on/off switch.

Very cheaply made
When I received my fridge and plugged it in it didn't seem to be working. I had a look at the fan inside the box and the fan was catching the plastic surround. I tried to move it and the surround came of in my hand. On further inspection the hole which the motor arm came out of had been drilled either twice or slipped making the hole a mess and the motor arm not in the centre hence why the fan catching. Overall the product is very tacky and not made well at all. I wouldn't recommend this product to anyone

A cooler and a warmer - nice when going to friends for dinner
Great cooler bought for a long road trip. I power it in my house with the Koolatron wall power adaptor to chill it down before use. Then I move it to my car and plug it in there. When going to my daughter's for dinner I switched to heating mode and put in the dishes I baked for dinner. When I arrived at my daughter's I put the Koolatron in the dining room not plugged in. We waited for two hours for dinner to be served and the food I brought was still so hot two hours later it did not need any more warming. I was amazed at how hot it got and how well it retained the heat. (One of the take-out type foil food trays had a plastic dome cover that melted from the heat!) In cooling mode I measured 3 degrees C, that's really cold. I didn't measure the temperature in heat mode, but definitely will keep hot dishes ready to serve on the table. I would suggest you get the genuine Koolatron 120V to 12V adaptor to pre-cool or preheat at home. At first I bought another brand adaptor and it got so hot I was scared. Later bought the Koolatron adaptor and it runs just barely warm.
