It isn't "Refrigerator" cold

We took this on a cross country trip with my 2 grandkids. It was interesting to use. Very quiet. We did leave it plugged into the car overnight twice (we stayed in a Tipi on the river - Cody Trout Ranch!!) So, no power in the Tipi. It did fine, everything stayed cold. It isn't refrigerator cold but it is "safe" for food cold as long as you don't let the car get too hot. It only cools about 30 degrees cooler than your environment.

Amazing!

I really researched which cooler to buy. I read the reviews, thanks to everyone who posted and didn't want to spend a fortune, but was willing to spend a bit to get a good working product. Went with the Koolatron for many reasons and have to say after 11 days on the road running nearly non stop that I made the right choice 100%! We ran this thing non stop nearly both in hotel rooms and in the car. After 7 days, a bag of ice I had added at home was still frozen solid and it was colder inside cooler than hotel fridge. No joke! I was afraid to put the food in the fridge so just keep them in the cooler and put the drinks in the fridge. Add a couple ice packs or a bag of ice as it help keep the temp even lower and since our Honda Odyssey Touring plug in the back turns off when engine is off, the ice helps keep the temp down during gas fill ups and bathroom runs without sacrificing coolness. I noticed no ice or frost build up after 7 days, but chose to turn in off for a short time & dry it out just to be safe. What I did notice was after that when car was turned off somehow we had a bit of water in the bottom and did not dry it out, then the frost built up. I think because the food was out for a couple minutes, persipration developed on the food. I believe if there is perspiration or additional moisture inside, then likely to get frost. Still ran with frost, but I decided to dry it out and defrost to be on the safe side. I also wiped down food before putting back inside. THis time no frost build up. Bought the adapter plug for using in the hotels and did as other reviewers said. I cooled it down the day before at home without anything inside so it was cold when we started and added only cold food & drink to it. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. No moisture produced. Adapter gets hot for sure. Almost scary, but no problems with it. This was NOT our main cooler, but for our foods like meats, cheeses, milk etc. that needed to stay cold all the time. Stayed as cold as my fridge at home if not colder keeping ice frozen even in outdoor temps up to 100 degrees while engine was running! We had a standard cooler with ice for drinks that was used allowing the Coolatron to protect vital foods. Highly recommend this cooler and adapter, but Amazon needs to fix the packaging as we did have minor damage and could have easily been destroying or severely damaged in shipping. Do not order last minute. We did and had one wheel with minor damage and the plastic restrainer for the lid was broken. No time to exchange, but works fine without.

40 degrees lower or hotter than surrounding air.

Wanted a refrigerator for my car. This would not work in 100 degree heat. Running all day only cooled to 70 degrees minimum. I would have to leave my car running with air conditioning with no thermostat control to regulate temperature

Works Well!

I read the other reviews, so I had a few tips that made using it a breeze. We are a family of five and we had more than enough room. I have used it on 2 different trips, these are the tips that made it work wonderfully: -Place paper towels on the bottom to help with condensation, so it doesn't freeze up. (If it does turn it off for a bit and turn it back on, change paper towels on the bottom.) -Turn it on the night before, to cool it down or warm it up. -When using it cold, make sure that the items you put in it are cold from the start. Any uncooked meats should be frozen. They will not remain frozen, it was a precaution and the bacon stayed at a safe temp the entire week of our trip. --Take some nail polish and highlight the side of the plug with the arrow. Since the cooler can be a warmer as well it will save you the heartache of finding the wrong temp in your cooler. -Buy the battery saver, better to be safe than sorry and since we traveled for a week it was a great peace of mind. -Buy the AC adapter, you will have an automatic mini fridge in your hotel if you place it beside the AC vent. It also makes it easer to cool it down the night before. -I did read that some did not like the length of the handle. I gave the kids the responsibility of pulling it around, the height and length was just right for them. You could always add a belt or rope, but I did not find it a problem. I am very glad that I made this purchase. My mother was so impressed that she got a smaller one for herself!

Heats & Cools But Poorly Made - Newly Edited

We had a smaller model that worked well for years. Decided to try this larger one. On first use the latch broke and a wheel keeps coming off even though we are not wheeling the cooler around. Appears to do its job of cooling and heating well but if you can't keep the lid shut tight what good is it? Koolatron was very responsive in getting me a replacement latch. Having had one of their cooler/heaters for several years it was just disappointing that it had some defects. Product is great! Service was Excellent! Thus I increase my rating from 3 to 4 stars.

Great product! Worked well in our minivan keeping items very cool/cold. I plug it in empty in the house the night before I am going to use it. I put a thermometer inside to check performance and it did a great job keeping food at least 20 degrees cooler than temp. around kooler in air conditioned car! Inside the house it went down to 40 degrees at night! While on our vacation Easily wheeled it into motels and plugged it into 110volt wall socket. I purchased the Kooltron Multi purpose adapter 110AC to 12Volts sold separately. Worth every $$ I spent! We were at the beach in air conditioned house, I kept the Kooler plugged in for 14 days to store overflow food from refrigerator in kitchen! (mostly canned drinks and small items) It worked great! Only problem after about 5 days of constant use the unit began to freeze up (it is not frost free!) Easy to remedy, I just unplugged it and let the ice melt which took less than an hour, mopped up the small amount of water that accumulated on the bottom and plugged it back in to the 110AC and it ran for another 5 days when I did another quick defrost! I love the convenience of this cooler! It is easy to transport food items. Plugs into the car and with special adapter I purchased separately, plugs into any 110AC outlet! I'm delighted with my purchase!

Glacière qui refroidit avec beaucoup de mal même dans une voiture climatisée. Dommage qu'elle n'a pas de transfo 110/240v directement intégré comme certains modèles, pour la brancher au secteur vous êtes obligés d'acheter un adaptateur. En ce qui concerne les roues, c'est pratique pour les personnes de moins de 1m60. Sinon la glacière est trop à la verticale et le contenu se renverse.. Sinon le format permet de l'intégrer dans un coffre sans perdre trop d'espace ( seul point positif)

This unit only comes with the lighter plug in. returned it rather than spend an additional $50

Needed this cooler for traveling in the car and for hotel rooms, only the car attachment comes with it. 120v cord must be purchased separately at an additional cost.

Koolatron W75 36 Quart Kooler

I found the Koolatron cooler to be exact,and more cooler that I was looking for! We use this cooler as an extra devise to supplement our refrig. in our tailer. The Kooler chilled our drinks, and I found the closer to the cooling mechanisim our meat was held at a perfect temperature. Our two young grandsons were simply over joyed when we took the cholate milk from this area, as they discribed the cholate milk to be a slushy, The Koolatron ran for 6 days, with no apparent over loading the motor. JUST what we required!
