This review is from: Hamilton Beach 04386A True Air Allergen-Reducing Air Cleaner (Misc.) I have a couple of other air cleaners I got from Amazon, but when I made those purchases, I got them for other rooms. This one I use in our super large living room. It came to me very fast and I was excited to get it going! So occasionally the dingbat in me comes out to play, and this was that day! I opened it up, took everything out of the box, read the guide and put it on a table where it will stay. I plugged it in and was on my way. So I turn it on to the "Quick Clean" and let it run for about an hour, then I turned it down to the "Whisper Clean" cycle. It was a bit loud during the quick clean cycle, but that cycle is only meant to be run for a short period of time, and once I turned it to Whisper Clean, it was so quiet I had to lean in to it to make sure it was even running. My husband came home from work that night, and he said that he could actually tell the difference. After a week I turned it off and took it out in the garage so we could clean the filter with our air compressor. My husband took off the cover and stopped. He looked at the machine then looked at me then looked back at the cleaner. I asked him what was wrong. He smiled when he looked at me and said - "Hey Babe, you reallllly should have taken the plastic wrapper off the filter. This may have cleaned out air a lot better." I almost fell off the chair! Yes, I operated an AIR cleaner without a working filter! DUH! What amazed both of us is this. There was a ton of dog hair and dust/dirt all on the inside of this cleaner! So, even though I completely screwed it up that first week, it still got stuff out of the air! LOL How can you not laugh at that?!?! Yes, I took the plastic wrap off the filter and we cleaned it, put it back together and put the cleaner back and plugged it in. And let me tell you!! I did just like before - ran it through the Quick Clean first, then down to the Whisper Clean. We thought it worked good even when it shouldn't have worked at all but now with the filter in use - oh my God this thing has sucked up so much dust, dirt, and dog hair and God only knows what else so good - I may buy another! And no, we aren't dirty people but we do live in Texas and the amount of dirt and dust and pollen around here is ridiculous, not to mention the dog hair from our little Bulldog. The reason for getting another - our living room alone is 25 by 30 feet, but our dining room is right off the living room and the kitchen right off the dining room and both of those are fairly large as well...so the unit I have now is cleaning up all 3 of these rooms and the addition of one more would be awesome. My husband has terrible allergies and I want to do everything I can to make him feel better. So far, he has gone from sneezing like he has a bottle of pepper under his now to I can't remember the last time he sneezed. His eyes used to water every single day & night, now it is just occasional. That right there tells me this machine is doing it's job - so I feel it's definitely worth the money. I have had no issues with the size or weight or any filter issues . It's designed well, no cheap stuff here! I would definitely recommend it to anyone with allergies or Asthma or if you just want clean air from cigarettes or from a stinky fish dinner or strong garlic!
