Best 100-degree+ wicking super-light shorts EVER!
Updated 8/17 -- these are still the most functional, practical shorts I've ever owned. Just wore them 24x7 for two straight days crewing with no sleep for a 100-mile ultramarathon in July (100+ temps) and will be wearing them for 4 straight days in a couple of months to crew a 200+ mile event. I stick all kinds of things in the pockets -- socks, medical trash, trauma scissors, travel binoculars, water bottles, empty yogurt cups, apples, batteries, keys (velcro pocket), ID (zipper pocket), phone (velcro pocket)-- and have yet to run out of room. They show no wear at all, no pulled threads or unraveling seams. They don't get stinky and they dry FAST. Stains always come out when I machine-wash. = = = = = I have these shorts in 3 colors - botanic, slate, lt khaki. I'm 5'5", 135#, runner's build. I originally had the size 6, but the rise was a little short and rubbed me, not in a good way. So I ended up going with the 10, that's a baggy fit on me that falls below my natural waist, which is what I wanted. They come to a couple inches above my knees. That's nearer the knee than the Ex Officio website shows these shorts on their model, which is the other reason I sized up to 10 vs 8 -- I wanted them to hit farther down on my leg. I've seen a couple of reviews that say the fit is frumpy. I think the thing to realize is that these are working shorts. They're for active people who sweat -- hikers, geocachers, etc.. In that context, they look great -- functional and capable, like you know what you're doing and buy the right tools for the job, so to speak. And if you pair a baggy pair of shorts with a form-fitting top like a tank or fitted tee, plus fun sandals, they look pretty darn cute according to my Ironman hubby. They are GREAT shorts. I bought my first pair about 3 years ago after a trip to super-hot Tulsa, OK in July. I was out walking all day in 100+ temps, and my cotton shorts looked tacky soaked with sweat down the back, and didn't dry out even overnight! I swore then I was going to find some really good -- and attractive -- technical shorts before the next summer rolled around. This is what I found, and they are PERFECT. I live in Texas and am outdoors in these practically daily in 100+ temps for hours at a time. You can sweat like crazy and these shorts WILL NOT GET SOGGY. Heck, 99% of the time you won't even SEE sweat on them. They are just amazing. And very, very lightweight yet tough. They're a tight weave that doesn't tend to catch on thorns or rough spots that you brush against. The pockets are plentiful and highly functional. Two open + one zipped on one side, one open + one velcro closure on the other side. I can drop my Galaxy S5 in and it doesn't stick out above the edge. Highly, highly, HIGHLY recommended.

Fit for a curvy girl
For some reason I have been having a beast of a time finding shorts this summer. I wear a true size 6, but through a little research I determined I am what is popularly known as curvy, so even though I only weigh 128 pounds my bigger Dutch butt and smaller waist make it impossible for me to find shorts that fit. I have ordered and returned (no kidding) 11 pairs of shorts thinking the next pair would be the one, only to be disappointed again. These ExOfficio shorts really fit. The pockets are actual useful pockets and the length is perfect - mid thigh. Of course I would prefer 100% cotton shorts, or something a little dressier, but for the farmer's market or hanging around with the dog these are absolutely perfect. They wash and line dry in less than an hour and they are not fussy. The size 6 does run a little big, but it's nothing obnoxious. I'm ordering them in all colors.

The gray is a nice deep gray
Very well made! The gray is a nice deep gray. I bought these for hiking shorts. I love all the easily accessible pockets that lie flat. There is even a tab for attaching things. One of the pockets has velcro and fit my Samsung Note, no small feat. The zipper pocket is quite deep. The waist band has a very soft, brushed lining - a nice touch. I am 5'7", 145 lbs. I have a smaller waist and slightly wider hips. I normally where a size 10, which I ordered. The reason I gave them 4 instead of 5 stars is because they sit quite low on my hips. The waist is a bit big on me, but I don't think an 8 would fit through the seat. They are a tiny bit noisy, but not bad. Overall, I am very happy with them.

Super comfy, great length.
I got the size 6 and I'm 5'2" at 145 lbs. It makes a swishing noise when you walk, but the comfort makes it worthwhile. Just don't put anything heavy in the lower side pocket. I like how the right back pocket zips because that is where I put my wallet. There is a key loop in the left pocket, but that is the pocket I put my phone, so I use the belt loop on the right side and tuck the keys into the right pocket because it lines up perfectly and my keys don't jingle around. I like that the waist had a real button and not a snap. The waistband looks like a men's pair of pants, but maybe that is why it is so comfortable. These are my go-to summer shorts.

Love them so much I bought 3 pairs
I love the fit of these shorts, and they are so lightweight and comfortable I ended up buying 3 pairs. I don't love that different colors are different prices, but fortunately the most expensive color wasn't one I was interested in - and the prices were cheaper on Amazon than elsewhere. They may run a little large for some people, but I have a little extra "padding" right now, and I like to carry items in my pockets when I'm out walking or hiking, so the fit really works for me. Very flattering and also pretty classic looking for outdoor wear - I'm sure I'll wear these for years.

Comfortable, good value
Comfy, nice material - almost feels like it is waterproof. Lightweight, good length, lots of pockets, some with zippers or tabs. It's a tiny bit small through the inseam, but very comfortable. Might order more in other colors. I usually wear a 4 or 6 and ordered 6 since I wanted a looser fit. Legs and waist were good - a size up would have been too big.

Seem a little bigger than I thought
I got a 10, I’m usually around a tight8 or comfortable 10 and the ten was kind of loose but still comfy. I love ex officio clothes though.

Best shorts for tropical weather
I bought a much larger pair a few years ago to take with me to Central America. As I have lost weight over the last three years, I keep ordering the next size smaller. These are the best shorts for tropical weather. If I get caught out in the rain, they dry in no time. They are comfortable in the heat and I can safely store my ID and money in a zippered pocket so that I don't have to carry my wallet.
