Serious, very serious heat!
This burner produces major, heavy-duty flame. Seriously, it is serious heat. This is not a burner that you would want to lend to your teenager to take to his/her next beach party. You have to be very careful and follow directions to the letter until you become more familiar with it. The powerful flame can take you by surprise the first time you turn it on--and that is only with a half-turn of the valve. There is a short story about this burner's big brother inStir-Frying to the Sky's Edge: The Ultimate Guide to Mastery, with Authentic Recipes and Stories ; if you have that book you should read that story: This burner is a little bit tamer, but not much. That being said, this is an awesome burner for your wok if you are an experienced cook, familiar with high heat and are willing to take this new way of cooking nice and slow. The burner also works with pots up to 36 quarts, but the instructions very specifically state that the unit should not be used for frying turkeys. In the instructions it says that Eastman Outdoors sells a Fish-Fry/Hot Pot and says that when using this pot, you can fry up to 2 pounds of fish or chicken wings. I guess the fact that it says chicken "wings" means that it cannot accommodate two pounds of other chicken pieces? Who knows, but I think the main point is that big pots of oil sitting on these legs is a safety issue. Regarding the size of the wok: The instructions say that you can use a wok "up to" 18". We already had a 14" wok that we use in the house and it is suitable for our use. But the 14" on this burner is a little small. The flame--even turned low--comes up a little too high on the side of the wok. Another larger model of this Kahuna burner by Eastman Outdoors comes with a 22" wok, but that seemed way too big for us. And as other reviewers noted, the 22" wok was hard to season and hard to clean because it was so big. So we went out and bought a 18" wok. It is perfect for the burner and I feel safer using it. I think you could use a 16" wok, but I really think the 14" is too small. I don't think they should have used the words "up to" 18"; I think they actually meant to say the burner is meant to be used with an 18" wok. UPDATE 5/6/13: The 18" was too big for us, so we bought a 16" and are much happier with it. You can learn from out experience: The tank valve should be turned on all the way. The valve for the burner should be turned on one-half-turn only to light, then after lighting, turn the valve down to one-quarter-turn to heat your carbon steel wok. It will heat very, very fast. You will most likely never need to turn the valve above one-half turn. Your cooking will take place somewhere between one-half and one-quarter-turn. Set up the burner out of the wind. If there is wind, and you can't get away for it, give it up and cook another way. You won't be able to see the flame if there is a lot of wind. (I'm talking about wind above 7-10mph.) END OF UPDATE. I love this product! But I knocked it down one star because there is only one height for the leg extensions. Either the extensions are left tucked into the first section of legs (and you put it on a very stable table to use) or you use the legs fully extended--there are no extra holes along the length of the legs for the spring-loaded button to clip into. It may be a safety-related issue, I don't know. Even with the legs extended, unless you are a very short person, you will still be working with the wok below waist-level. So you surely don't want to wear loose fitting clothing while cooking, as the flame is pretty close to where your shirttails would be. The burner itself is magnificent: Well-constructed, heavy-duty, with precision-cut holes. The rest of the unit is rather average in construction, and if it is like ours, it will have a few dings and scratches right out of the box. The legs are not wobbly and appear to be very safe--especially thinking about a filled-36 quart pot... To make this unit more compact for storing, you can totally remove the three legs and there is a bracket under the burner where you can slide in the legs and tighten them down for storage. The unit is very simple to assemble. It comes with a little wrench, but it would be much easier if you have a ratcheting tool at your disposal. Other facts: Unit is either 18" or 26" tall. The "Revolution Burner" claims to burn hotter; to burn cleaner (75% cleaner than industry standards*), and to use less propane (than industry standards*). Eastman Outdoors calls the "Revolution Burner" professional grade. It works with a standard 20 lb propane tank. *Canadian Standards Authority (CSA), which is a testing organization accredited by the Standards Council of Canada and the United States.

excellent choice for wok
I use it for wok all the time now and it works like a champ. It connects with the regular US gas container and can deliver high BTU heat.

Value for money
I love this product and would buy it again blindfolded. This was exactly what I expected. Very powerful to cook with a wok.

Perfect for cooking and hurricanes
I originally bought this as a Christmas gift for my husband who is leaning to make Asian dishes at home. Not only has it made some amazing food, but it was a great way to get a warm meal when we lost power after a hurricane.

Great unit - good for fish fries
Do yourself a favor if you fry a lot of fish and get this burner for outdoor fries. DONT fry fish indoors, do it outside using a big stainless steel pan/wok or cast iron pot/pan. (when getting a pan, the bigger the better to avoid splash over). This burner has great control and good heat output for hot oil frying and wok cooking. I've used the cheapo/china/$30 burners in the past and they cause more frustration than anything.

Useful burner, but the height it too low
You get some serious heat from the burner. I bought this to do wok cooking, so far it has worked well. However, the height is too low and I have certainly sprained by wrist trying to toss a heavy wok. I had to build a wood platform to raise it.

All the heat you will need.
I wanted something I could use to stir fry out on the patio rather than use our electric stove inside. This works great. It comes with its own shut-off valve, so I didn't have to buy anything else to use it. It generates more heat than I will ever need to cook with. It holds th wok fine.

You can stop getting takeout now.
You're reading these reviews because you've tried making Chinese food at home and it just doesn't taste the same as the restaurant even though you KNOW you've got good ingredients and a good recipe. You're trying to achieve that last bit of flavor that you can only get from an extremely hot wok called "wok hei" and I'm happy to report that this burner will give you just that. First things first, everyone else is right about the packaging. This is a heavy duty metal piece of equipment yet Eastman decided to put it in a paper box that is as thin as a box of Tylenol. Don't be surprised when the box comes completely torn up because of this, since Amazon doesn't do any better at their packaging either for this product. This needs to be rectified because one of the hand screws got damaged (not really that important) and it was clearly because this thing isn't secure enough on its journey from the warehouse to your house. I complained to Amazon and they gave me a certain percent off for my trouble, which was outstanding. As far as the unit itself goes, it's great. I was worried it would be too short, but when fully extended it's almost a perfect height for me (I'm 5'10'). If you think it'll be too short you can always put it on some kind of platform. I use a 16 inch wok and it could easily handle an 18 inch wok as well, maybe even bigger but then you start to sit on top of the "wok holders" instead of snugly inside. When cranked up all the way, you have to be CAREFUL. The flames will try and go up the side of your wok (a good thing) but this will make oil catch fire very quickly. Many other reviewers have stated they had flames go up 4 feet when they put the oil in, so just make sure you do some practice runs with a little oil when the wok is hot. Nevertheless, you want to be using a fiery hot wok with hot oil and this does the job. The flames aren't going to go so high that it will light your food on fire, unless you are using a small wok, but that's okay because you can achieve 'wok hei' even without directly setting the food on fire in my opinion. Installation was easy, the one complaint I have is that they put the gas regulator (the valve that will control the flame) on the side of the hose where the gas tank is, not on the side where you will be standing near the wok. So anytime I want to change the heat output, I have to go over to the tank, away from the food. This isn't a huge deal since the hose is only 3 feet long, but it would have been nice to have that control right on the unit, like a stove. I'm not comfortable keeping this outside permanently so I bring it inside for storage when not in use. You should never use this indoors because of the Carbon Monoxide generated - even the best home cooking vents won't be enough for this guy. It's also a huge fire hazard. My first dish was chicken fried rice and I was finally able to beat the restaurant. I knock off one star for poor packaging and gas regulator away from the unit. One tip: If you don't already have a wok, don't buy one online. Go to the biggest Chinese grocery store in your area and find the equipment section. I got a fully carbon steel single piece 16 inch wok for $15 bucks. Don't buy a cast iron wok as that material takes too long to heat and get cool, which defeats the purpose of a wok - stainless steel is unnecessary as well. Don't spend more than $25.

Wok hei
Very happy with my purchase. Taken wok cooking to a new level! Definitely would recommend. Just buy a £12 adapter to convert to UK So good cooking outside. Saves the house smelling so bad. The power of the heat really makes the food taste like a takeaway. Takes a bit of getting used too. Conforms to strick Canadian safety regulations. Was unsure about using cheap burners from China.

Need adaptor to connect to bottle
Didn't realise needed an adaptor to connect to my gas bottle, have now ordered one so hopefully will be cooking soon

Wrong sized burner thread, cannot use
Basically you can't use it. The burner end is supposed to screw into the Venturi thread and the thread is the wrong size. No amount of PTFE tape will fix this. Cannot return the item so I'm out of pocket. Very poor quality control. This maybe a one off but I wouldn't risk it.
