Great starter for my Tecumseh 13.0 OHV Industrial engine - 5 stars
I have to give this item a qualified 5 stars. I wish I could go 4.5 stars because I had to supply new mounting bolts. I will explain: The item itself it almost exactly identical to the starter I removed from my 13.0 OHV Tecumseh Industrial mower. The difference is in the mounting bracket. My original bracket had (4) holes in a plate welded to the body of the starter. This starter has (2) holes molded right into the casing of the starter, and the casing is thicker than the original starter's bracket and this mounting requires longer mounting bolts. If I remember correctly, I attached the new starter using regular grade 1/4-20 bolts 1 1/2" in length. I used a lock washer over the top of a flat washer to keep from digging into the mounting body. Probably not a big deal, but that's what I did. As far as function is concerned, this starter whips my mower over significantly better than the original starter did. I also put a new carb on this mower, and now I barely touch the key to the starter, and the mower starts right up. So if things continue as they are now, this starter will see very little use, and the starter should last a long time. I paid about $40 delivered. The starter was nicely packaged, and the starter arrived in a timely fashion. I am very pleased overall, and I recommend this product for any application where it will fit. Make sure you get the right one! There are a BUNCH of starters of this size that fit on different motors! The best thing to do is to cross-reference the part #. Luckily for me, my part number was on a tag (still on the old starter since 1999) on the mounting bracket on my original starter.

Fit my DR Brush Mower
This starter fit my 12.5 HP DR Brush Mower engine perfectly. That's a 12.5 Tecumseh engine on that mower. It's always a relief when something fits when you are not buying the OEM part. Interesting price info: The starter motor from DR is $250, you can get the same starter from a parts house for $150. Those are actual Tecumseh parts. This starter for around $40 has a different design - two bolts rather than 4, looks totally different - but it fits perfectly and boy does it start the mower. I didn't realize how weak that old starter was getting - I replaced it because of problems with the starter gear - but this one starts the mower effortlessly! That should also help on the battery lasting longer. No more long periods of cranking - just a turn of the key and it's running. We'll see how long it lasts - it seems to be good quality. Even if it doesn't last that long, I can buy 5 more before I get up to the cost of just one from DR.

I bought this to replace the 4 bolt unit on my ENDURO XL/C 13.0 Tecumseh Overhead Valve. Simply put it works great. Just had to use 2 Longer mounting bolts.
