Serious compression - know what you're getting in to.
UPDATE*** I have run in these for a couple months now and they have gotten less tight. Maybe I have gotten skinnier, but I doubt it. After maybe 5 washings, they started to feel pretty comfortable. I now wear them about 5 times a week without an issue. So if you get these, wash them a few times (but don't put them in the dryer) and see if that makes them feel less like they're trying to hurt you. I have also since tried the less-compression stabliyx version and ended up returning them. The size M was too loose on me and the crotch slid down when I ran. Not comfy. I run a pretty good amount - around 40 miles a week with a weekend long run in the 13-15 mile range. So when I was at a race and a woman was wearing these leggings with crazy stripes, I asked her if the compression strips actually worked. "Oh yes", she said, "I can run longer now without getting sore." Well, that sounded awesome to me, so I bought these. First - putting them on. I suggest that you do some stretching first so you don't get hurt. I am 5'7", 135 pounds, and shaped like a straight line (this review is for a size M). I have to wear a belt with jeans or the fall off my non-existent butt. These leggings slid right on until I got to that non-existent butt. That last 18-inches took several minutes to pull on. These things are *tight*!! But once I got them on, there was no way they were going to slide around or sag. Yea for no sagging! The compression strips also fit exactly where I expected, and I really did feel like the leggings were stabilizing my knees. So having won the battle of the butt, I took my leggings out for a run. It was chilly but not cold - about 45 degrees - and they felt warm enough that I was comfortable but not hot. I was expecting that the compression would feel like a hug around my legs while I ran. And they did! Super comfortable and zero knee soreness at all (something I usually experience because I'm 46 and that's how knees work). However, after about 5 miles I began to realize that the gentle leg hug was also coming with a vice grip around my waist. Seriously, the waist on these leggings is SO TINY that it was cinching in a good 2 inches all the way around my waist. And it is not at all elastic. The waistband has a drawstring (dear lord I have no idea why) and appears to be made of the least stretchy material they could find. I tried pulling the waistband up high, and then it gouged at my ribs. I pulled it down low and it terrified my bladder so much that I had to pee (side note, do not take these off to use the bathroom while running because I have no idea how you would ever get them back on). At the end of a 14-mile run, I felt mildly nauseous and had an angry red line where the waistband had been. On the plus side, without even trying or noticing, I had broken my previous PR at that distance by over 7 minutes and felt much less sore than I usually do when running slower! So while it is possible that the effect was entirely mental, I'm pretty sure there is something to the compression zones here. By the evening after my run, I felt great and not at all sore. But I also felt a bit terrified to wear them again due to the waistband experience. I'll probably try some other brands or styles and see if I can find one that does not have the Victorian corset thing going on at the waist. Or maybe I'll try and modify these. Because other than the waist being so tight that it hurt, these were super great! Also, the rainbow stripes are cool.

Great for EDS
I purchased these after having three pairs of the mid-level stabilyx leggings to support my loose joints from having Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. These are by far the most supportive. It has additional compression material through the hips that really helps keep my problem child (my right hip) from dislocating throughout the day. The added compression actually extends into the lower back and helps stabilize the lower lumbar area, and provides enough compression to provide some pain relief from SI Joint dysfunction. They also have added knee support. They are difficult to get into due to stiffness and pain in the hands, but most days I am able to make it work. If money were not a concern, I would wear these all the time, but I have noticed from the previous pairs of stabilyx that they do loose elasticity, stretch out, and generally wear out over time. I wish the price point were lower or that they were covered by insurance for those of us with medical concerns, but they are worth saving up for.

Like Ryan Gosling wrapping your legs in his steely embrace
If I could replace all of my running gear with compression tights, I would. They are amazing. I am 5'7", 135 lbs, and I ordered a medium. They fit very well; the knee bracing comes over my knee naturally; they are a tiny bit shorter than my usual long leggings, about an inch above my ankles. Doesn't bother me, just a comment on the fit to help you decide the size you need. My only complaint with the fit was a tiny bit of rubbing on my left upper thigh near the groin area, but I think pulling them up/ensuring they're seated correctly on my hips will alleviate it. Even if it doesn't, the tights are great enough that I'll keep wearing them. I am training for a marathon and ran 11.25 miles in them last Friday (accidentally, it was supposed to be only 10 miles...these tights were instrumental in that last mile). The temperature was about 36 degrees and minimal wind; my legs felt warm the whole run. I usually deal with some dull knee pain in my left knee past mile 6 or so, but I didn't feel it at all in these tights. My hips felt very supported the whole time, and I think wearing them seriously alleviated a lot of the stiffness and soreness I usually feel after a long run. I did not notice any of the sheerness that is mentioned in other reviews, but when I stretched in them I could see how that might be a concern if you really stretch the fabric. I wore shorts over mine because I run on a base, but in a different environment I would be comfortable wearing them without shorts. They are not comfortable to sit around in, but that's what I expected with compression tights. I would highly recommend them for running or other outdoor activity; I would not recommend them for a workout in the gym, they're a little too constrictive for that. In my humble opinion. I am considering buying another pair.

Get them!!! Functional and Cute.
I've been eyeing these for a LONG time now and I finally got them. Worth every penny. Great quality and the support is significantly more noticeable than any other pair I have. It took a little longer to put them on the first time but that was it. Second time was easier. I'm around 140lbs with thick legs and glutes but short at 5'2" so I got a size small and it's perfect (27" waist, 41" hips).
