Best Electric Kettle
I continue to buy this product for myself and for others. It heats water quickly, the handle and flip top are easy to use, the footprint is small, and it is easy to clean.

Button for handle ended up breaking, other wise its very nice.
After much research and many read reviews I thought this might be what I was looking for. However there are definitely a few flaws with the overall design. first I thought the water was only touching glass, but it turns out theres a heating element made of aluminum (I assume) that heats the water at the bottom of the device, however I theorize (much like using a glass coffee maker one would use on the stove) that a thicker amount of glass would be an all glass solution(because if its too thin heat will crack the glass) and an all glass situation is truly superior but hard to find, as its non reactive, and there is no leeching of anything into the water, and if you purify your water ahead of time, it's basically the way it should be (however even here in san francisco, I discovered boiling regular tap water would leave strange rust like stains on the heating element where it heated the water, which was quite disturbing and lead to me buying the pur filter system for the faucet at walgreens for a cheap temporary solution) I understand the need for a plastic handle, but theres no real need to have a plastic lid thats touching the glass, couldn't you have a piece of plastic holding a piece of glass that then touches the water so that not even the droplets of steam water get plastic leeched in it and then it drops back in....a very silly design with an easy design fix to maximize effectiveness. I feel people are either doing things like this for planned obsolescence, or are just plain stupid. much the like the button that ended up breaking. I'm a pretty sensitive person, I'm not pushing down the button crazy hard (l'm not the one screwing up the wobbly doorknobs by yanking on them too hard in old houses, i try and use the least amount of energy for success, just saying in my defense, i'm a pretty zen guy, maybe it's all the tea I'm drinking, i mean, after all, its why I got this product) the button is also the ONLY way to open the lid, and if it breaks, you have to force the lid open, also when doing something like this, the automatic shut off thing no longer works because when its not fully closed (and when broken its nigh impossible to get it back to the fully closed position) it seems to not trip whatever mechanism is supposed to auto shut it off when it reaches its peak boil, like when theres too much steam, also this extremely hot steam is most likely leeching plastic from the lid stupidly. It is possible that some guest I've had over to my house might have pushed the button too hard foolishly when trying to help themselves to some tea, but a majority of the time it's just me using it. Really it's just an overly complex design where too many things can too easily go wrong, if anything, make a simpler more full proof button system, because now I have to wait around it or make sure I'm in the next room and can start to hear it roar to a slight boil, but if I don't pay attention, it could keep on boiling until all the water evaporates, again, a huge flaw, like leaving on an iron. Come on guys, we can definitely do better than this. Otherwise when the button was working, it was pretty sweet, and has a bit more cord length than you realize at first. I got it around APRIL 11 - APRIL 16 2013 and as of today, JULY 17, it's been broken for a few weeks, but seems to be getting worse, and can furth slip into the blast handle and get stuck, and pressing the button does nothing.

The BEST electric kettle - fast, efficient, with auto shut-off
This was a "going off to college" purchase I made for my 17 y.o. son. I looked at dozens of electric kettles, read lots of reviews, checked out Consumer Reports, etc., and ultimately decided this had the best combination of features at a good price. It has worked out really well, too, I am happy to report. It has actually worked SO well that there are now 5 other guys on my son's floor in the dorm who have acquired the exact same model! Here's what is good about this kettle: it heats up super fast. It will boil a full carafe of water in about 2-1/2 minutes - a full, rolling boil. This is faster than my 1300 watt microwave oven! From that point, he can make tea, cocoa, french press coffee, instant noodles, ramen, etc. really easily. He even uses the kettle to start water for cooking pasta, etc. on the stove in the dorm kitchen, since it takes forever to boil water on the burners. The kettle has an automatic shut off. There is no way for it to boil dry[ there's no chance he could leave it on and cause a problem. (YAY!) The glass carafe means you can see exactly what's happening without opening the top, which substantially lessens the likelihood of steam-related burns. It also increases the likelihood that the kettle will be CLEANED frequently enough to keep hard water rime from building up, since the glass shows any build up right away. The ONLY thing I wish were different on this kettle is the cord. It is quite short, so the base must be placed very near an outlet. The carafe lifts off the base completely to pour, fill, etc., so that part is not a big issue, but given the placement of outlets in dorm rooms built in the 1940s, a 2' cord is a challenge! It's not an insurmountable problem; it's just something that could be better. Overall, this is a great small appliance that makes dorm life much nicer, and has made the microwave entirely unnecessary for my son and his roommate. They actually sent the roommate's microwave back home - This does what they need, and they decided they'd rather have the shelf space.

So far so good....
After reading every single review and practically poking my eyes out....I decided on this one, in part because it has a glass pouring spout, glass interior and hidden heating element. No plastic touches the boiling water...only the condensation on the plastic lid. It's slim pickens out there these days. My 16-yr-old Russell Hobbs kettle suddenly bit the dust. It was a real RH (before the company was sold off) and it had the heating element inside the stainless steel kettle. Over 16 yrs, we went from a family of 6, hardcore tea drinkers....down to just the two of us. To go from that old RH to this glass one was a leap of faith. I initially am not disappointed. I boiled an initial pot of water & dumped it. Then I washed the interior out with soap & water before boiling two more kettles to spill out. It was easy to get my hand inside to clean it. It took 7 minutes to bring ice cold tap water to a rolling boil at the maximum fill line. I enjoyed a pot of tea without any strange smells or tastes. It poured nicely into my teapot without any spills from the spout. It looks nice on my counter top and takes up less space than my old kettle. It's not too heavy nor is it cumbersome in any way. I can't live without the speed and convenience of an electric kettle and this one makes me super happy. I'm like "so modern" now! The only downside was that Amazon did not have this kettle in stock so I made the purchase from a vendor and had to pay a shipping charge (I'm a Prime gal). The vendor did pack well and I received it within 2 days anyway, so other than having to pay for shipping, it was still a seamless purchase. I will certainly update my review if I encounter any trouble with it because I am a militant tea addict. You're welcome.

Great kettle. Have used this daily for a few weeks now. Boils fast, and is beautiful to watch. Looks great on the counter as well. Love the big handle and ease of bringing the cordless carafe to the table for tea.

Works well
Works well. I spent some time looking around and couldn't find any product that has stainless+glass construction only for surfaces that come into contact with water. What I wasn't sure about with this product, is that if it had a silicon ring between heating plate and the glass wall. I've confirmed that the ring is behind glass, it's done in a clever manner. Also when I pour out, I pop the lid open so that the water doesn't touch plastic cover/mesh grid. Also many users complain that heating plate rusts - in the last 4 weeks of use I didn't see any rust, however I do use RO filtered water.
