Great Clock w/ Many Options
I purchased this clock for our foyer and we love it! It's simple design and Bulova quality made it an easy choice! Pros: It's large enough to read from a distance, the ability to select the chime tune or hour strike is great, the volume knob allowed us to set the chime volume perfectly for our home AND it can be set so it doesn't ring all night (silent between 11pm - 5:45am) so it doesn't keep us awake! It's oak finish is true to the pictures on the site and it was very well packaged to help ensure we received the clock free from shipping damage. Cons: The only negative thing I can report is the ad on Amazon reads "Batteries - 1 C batteries required". Actually, the clock requires 2 C cell batteries to run the time piece AND 1 AA cell battery for the pendulum.

Beautiful, charming, quality piece
Solid wood construction so enjoy the character you get with that and don't look for the super-cheap but completely uniform veneer of a faux wood piece. Speaking of faux, can we get a law passed that only genuine, top grain leather can be called "leather?" We now have PU (polyurethane or just "plastic") leather, bonded leather (the scraps of real leather swept off the floor mashed together and reconstituted into a single piece via bonding agent), recycled leather (same as bonded leather ), faux leather, vegan leather (seriously? same as PU leather), and 'leatherette' that I know of. But I digress. I'm a man so reading the directions isn't something I normally do but make sure you do with this piece as I believe you can scramble the timekeeping - possibly beyond repair - if you do not. That means manually turning the hands all the way around the clock, clockwise, when setting even if you are only 15 minutes ahead of your current time and are tempted to just wind it counter-clockwise. Also, since I don't read directions I thought you had to remove the 4X screws in the back panel to adjust and in the process stripped one of them putting it back in. You only need to lift and remove the large back panel using the hole in it. I should have known this and shame on me but I haven't had a decent wall clock in a very long time. Of the four chime settings available we use Westminster - the 4X Westminster was fun for a day until we realized chiming every 15 minutes was a bit much. Is it overpriced? Probably. But it's a great piece and one I'm sure anyone who knows what they're buying here will enjoy.

Craftsmanship is commendable
The case is very nicely crafted and finished. A fine quality addition to a room. I read the instructions twice and followed them carefully. I have been checking the time against my phone from time to time and it is accurate. The chimes are clean and clear. The volume is easily adjusted or the chimes can be turned off completely. It runs silently. I suggest setting it up carefully on a counter somewhere safe from being knocked over and making adjustments to the time, type of chime, and volume before putting the back on. I left it like that for several hours, with the pendulum swinging gently, while making very small adjustments to the minute hand until it matched my phone exactly. Don't overshoot your mark while setting the minute hand, make very small adjustments, you are instructed to never turn the hands counter clockwise. I would also suggest that the clock be firmly mounted to a wall stud or a very strong sheet rock anchor. The clock is heavy. Be sure it is level and secure!

Beautiful Clock
I absolutely love this clock! I'd been wanting a pendulum clock for years and some are very pricey, but this one is gorgeous and was reasonably priced. Make sure you READ AND FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS when setting this up. Not that they're hard to understand but you will be very pleased with the setup if you do it correctly. There are different options as far as when it will chime, a choice of chimes, and there is a volume control. As far as the case it's a beautiful medium oak with clean lines. I used a heavy duty anchor in the wall with a screw and it is more than secure. I'm so pleased to have found a beautiful clock that I could afford and looks so expensive! This would also make a wonderful gift for a wedding, anniversary, or house warming.

Modern version of the 'box clock'
Clock repair shops refer to this style of wall clock as a 'box clock'. We had a working antique German box clock but discovered true pendulum clocks will have issues hanging on a brick wall, such as above the fireplace. Brick walls buckle and lean it turns out thus stopping the pendulum frequently. The Bulova Manorcourt is a battery operated, faux box clock. The pendulum is for show. The cabinet is handsome enough but does not have a hinged front door like our German clock did. Any maintenance, adjustments with the Manorcourt requires you to remove the clock from the wall, slide the back panel out to change the battery, adjust the hands or select the audio functions. The chimes were so loud, even set on the first tick of the knob, that we elected to completely silence the donging by turning Volume all the way down to zero. The chimes emit on the quarter-hour, strike the hours at the hour, and have a PM option to shut up from 11pm to 5:45am. I must comment the antique clock has more of a charm with its hesitant path through the bells whereas the modern clock is rather soul-less by comparison. I would recommend this clock to a friend, express my regret about the front glass door does not open and the clock face needs direct light to see the time. Our antique clock had a larger face and was more readable in the shadow. Four stars for the loss of my antique clock features.
