Nice Upgrade!
This low profile unit was perfect upgrade from the smaller unit it replaced that wasn't doing a good job of moving the damp air out of a small bathroom. It is also 60% quieter than the previous fan. One issue I had on install was that the there are edge mount tangs on only one side of the unit which ended up being on the opposite side of where I needed them. I ended up drilling a couple holes in the box and running long screws where the tangs should have been to hang/mount the fan on the edge opposite side from where it attached to the ceiling joist. Overall pleased with the result. Does a nice job and looks good!

Good ventilation fan. Quiet...
This is a lower-grade Broan ventilation fan, but lower-grade Broan is mid-grade in the overall scheme of bathroom fans. There are about three grades of bathroom fan. At the bottom, from about 15 to 70 dollars are the quick and dirty fans placed in modest spec homes and inexpensive hotel bathrooms. They're made of cheap plastic and lack integrated lights. They run a bit louder than higher echelon fans--above 3 sones. Mid grade is still made of plastic, but may have a rather plain integrated light. It's also quieter than the bottom grade (2-3 sones) and it runs roughly from 75 to 150 dollars. Top grade handles more air more quietly, often has attractive integrated light, can have an integrated heater for winter and can have metal and glass faces. Top grade can also be plastic, it is seriously noise-dampened and designed for quiet ,and it runs, roughly, above 150 dollars. Within these grades there is lots of variation in cfm (cubic feet of air moved a minute) and sones (sound level). A rough rule of thumb for needed CFM is one CFM per square foot of bathroom foor space. Of course, this doesn't increase arithmetically. A small room needs more serious ventilation than a huge bathroom because a big space dilutes the moisture.... Very quiet fans run about one sone, the volume level of a refrigerator. Three sones is about the sound of a regular conversation. So, this is a mid-tier fan for all fans generally though a lower-tier product for Broan It advertises that it puts out 1.5 sone, which is on the quiet end of fans and it moves 110 cfm, enough for a normal-rather-than-palatial bathroom. It's a Broan, which together with Panasonic, is a commonly found ventilation fan in nice homes. Broan doesn't mess with the really low end of the spectrum. They're mid and upper grades only. Finally, the primary reason to buy a Broan is that they last and last and last and when they break parts are still available decades after installation. I have Broan Nutone heater/ventilation/light units in two bathrooms that were installed in the 1970s, and both still look good and work well today. They have stainless and glass on the outside, and looking through the Broan catalog recently, I found what I think is an identical unit still available for $300 today. And I can still buy new motors for those old fans from Broan. Several years ago I needed to find a replacement face for an older Broan. it wasn't a fancy unit and it was several decades old, but sure enough, I could still get the part. I strongly recommend this fan.

Larger Fan Can Handle Larger Bathrooms
This fan rated at 110 CFM can handle larger bathrooms. It is a bit oversized IMO for a smaller 5' x 8' but does really well in at least a 8' x 8' or larger, and in bathrooms with 9' and taller ceilings. It will need to pull in makeup air and will do so from under the door, HVAC supply register or any other areas where air can flow. If you have a tightly sealed bathroom area where you plan to install that, then keep in mind it will need this airflow in order to work properly. It has the newer 4" oval design and comes with a 3" round adapter in the box so you can hook up to either size duct. I would go for the 4" if you are installing the duct also. It will perform much better with the 4" duct. It is a basic and simple design without a light or any other features. This makes for a simple and easy installation. It is quiet at only 1.5 sones. I wouldn't use it as an ambient noise maker for the water closet. It is really too large and not loud enough for that purpose. I would mainly use it for moisture removal during bathing and position it closer to the source of the moisture, ie.. the shower area. If you have it located close to the moisture source and have it running during moisture generation times, it will ventilate out most all of the moisture as it is being created. You will step out into a much drier bathroom, albeit not as warm... This is an excellent quality vent fan from Broan-NuTone. I expect it will last many years. It has a replaceable motor that won't require you to install a new housing. It is a little more expensive than the cheaper half this price basic builder versions, but it is a much higher quality unit. 5 stars for quality and value.

High flow and low noise, Perfect upgrade
I picked this up to replace an old exhaust fan of the same brand that is in my families house. Most of the older fans were very low flow and very high noise. In my house I have another brand that has had lower noise and higher flow for some years so it is good to see NuTone match the other brand. After installing these in my families house (I installed 3 different ones) I have to say that they work excellently. They are literally half as loud (or less) than the old fans and I can feel the air moving (because the bathrooms are small). Personally this is how I like it because the bathroom never stinks when I am using it and it doesn't get foggy when I shower either. Installation isn't fun.... but installing these things never is. There is a reason why they typically don't have to be replaced. I noticed also that since these came out; there are more of them being used at higher end Hotels/Resorts like the one that I stayed at last month. Infact they had the same models that I have here installed in our Villa. That isn't an endorsement of any kind but it has been some years since I have seen NuTone units in higher end Hotels. I suspect that they had the same experiences that I did! I would normally say that if there are issues in the future that I will report back, but my family recently sold their house now so I have no way of knowing at this point in time. We didn't have issues with them for the few months they were installed.
