Older Version Was Better

I've used the older version of this press for over 10 years, though I use it for loose leaf tea rather than coffee. It's version with a more domed lid, a straight vertical handle, stamped that it's made in Denmark. The glass beaker is basically the same on both so far, but the older Denmark version definitely has far better build and materials quality for the plastic and metal components. The newer, flat lid version is made in Portugal, and I've had more frustrations with it in only about a month. Metal mesh doesn't seem to fit as well, and it is bent in some strange ways around the edges, which I can't seem to bend out. The lid is also looser around the center bar, and is balanced so that when tipped backwards to insert into the beaker, the lid tends to spin around backwards on its own. Overall, the press still works great, and I would recommend it, just try to find the Denmark version of you can.

Great One Cup Press!

Bought this at Kohl’s for myself and love it. Bought this one for my brother. Makes one lovely cup of coffee at a time. Of course, haven’t found a French Press yet that didn’t make great coffee. You get some fine grounds in the bottom of your cup, but not using a paper filter means you get the full flavor profile of your beans, particularly those carried by the oils that a paper filter absorbs. Two reasons why the Brazil stands out for me: the unibody construction, with the borosilicate carafe fixed in the resin holder; and the notch which guides the press mechanism into the carafe so that the strainer built into the lid aligns with the spout. So many other styles of French Presses have removable carafes, meaning less breakage protection, and plungers that the user must rotate around to ensure strainer/spout alignment. It’s not hard to do that, obviously, but with the Brazil style you don’t have to do it at all.

Works as advertised

I have to remember how much coffee it takes (roughly 1/3c), but it’s great because you get more than one cup of coffee so perfect for making coffee for 1-2 guests.

It works AND we take it with us traveling.

We like the size of it, the quick rinse clean of it, the way the plunger comes apart for washing, the ease of making coffee in the morning. I grind the coffee beans, scoop them into the press, pour boiling water on top and push the plunger to the top of the liquid. The 4 minutes it takes to steep gives me time to prep the rest of breakfast then push the plunger all the way down which keeps the grinds at the bottom of the carafe, I pour out the fresh wonderful coffee. When we go on road trips, we wrap it in some bubble wrap and bring it with us. It doesn't require any electricity so whether camping or in a motel it's so so easy to use. Love it.

Perfect for larger sized French Press

I had a smaller Bodum Brazil and wanted a larger one. This fit the bill. Easy to use and clean up. Makes a mean cup of coffee.

Great purchase, make strong and flavorful coffee!

My wife gave my coffee maker to her parents. I had to find a solution. I had heard that french press were a great option. I like strong coffees (normally I drink espressos) and wasn't disappointed. Here are my observations (keep in mind this is my first french press): - The filters appear to be very fine and are very easy to take apart and clean. - It has too layers of filtration, I think the help prevent clogging. - When using a french press, there is something called the "mud", the filter are very fine so they do a good job at keeping the mud low. - Other than that, it does a good job at extracting the flavor from the coffee beans. You can adjust how long you let the mixing happen to adjust the strength of the coffee. - I would have prefered a larger one. This one barely manages to produce 2 large coffee cups. The process of preparing the coffee take a good 6-7 minutes so if you have some friends over you quickly end up spending all your time making coffee.

Packing Rant (scroll down for product review): Once again Amazon packing fails the test. This item was placed loosely in a box with other solid items. Left to rattle around together, I am impressed that the press didn’t shatter. The product is made of borosilicate which can shatter easily if dropped and should have been bubble wrapped before boxing. Product Review: This is another ideal item from Bodum. It’s a classic 3 cup French press, .35 litres (about 12 ounces. Many coffee companies consider a cup to be only 4 ounces). I use it as an alternative to my Keurig and individual pour over. It makes a flavourful cup of coffee. Clean-up: You will want to allow the unit to cool before cleaning. Add a little water to the press and pour the slurry of water and ground’s through a mesh sieve (line the sieve with paper towel for easier disposal) before disposing of the grounds in your organic waste. Do not pour grounds down the sink. This is a great way to clog your pipes. For a thorough cleaning you must disassemble the “plunger” assembly completely before scrubbing with soap and water. The easiest way is to run the disassembled press through the dishwasher. Summary: A French press makes an excellent cup of coffee provided that you use a clean press every time. Coffee oils quickly go rancid and rancid oils can ruin the flavor of your coffee.
