Didn't work for me. Design is flawed.

So this didn't work too well with my shorter haired dogs (pug mix and Boston terrier mix) and I'm going to give it to my coworker who has an English Shepherd to try it out. Even if this did work for my dogs fur, the design is flawed. You have to hold down the button on the top of the brush while brushing the whole time. After you release the button the bristles go back inside the brush and the hair comes off all over your floor. My dogs get excited about being brushed but they usually won't stand still. Holding the button down while brushing them and holding their collar with my free hand so that they stay still is quite the task. This is also a harsher brush, those little bristles feel like needles so you have to be careful not to push too hard on your dogs skin or it hurts them. Now try doing that while holding down the button at the same time. It really needs to have stationary bristles and you should push the button to release the hair, not the other way around.

The cats like it, but it's a bit big for the smaller ones

My cats all enjoy this, but it is a bit big for the smaller cats. It would be fine for all but the longest haired big dogs I think. It's made very sturdy. What makes this different is that the steel bristles retract when you don't have a button mashed down. When it is mashed down, the bristles come out, and when you take the pressure off, the retract. This makes it very easy to clean, and it seems a lot safer to use. My biggest cat loves to get his back just scrubbed with this. He acts really funny, biting at the carpet and moving his head around, but he will let us brush him as long as we will and will come when called hoping he gets some more.

Best for medium size dogs and large cats

Slicker brushes are usually a tool for dogs - cats have thinner skin under their fur - but this can be a handy grooming tool for Fluffy during the peak shedding seasons. My only caution, based on the behavior of my cat, is to watch out for pets who like to turn their heads and chomp on the edges of brushes and combs, as the slicker wires might cause injury to tender mouths.

Works Great

My cats don't like this yet, but it did a fantastic job on a faux lamb throw blanket. The retractable thing gets all of the fuzz off the bristles. Wish I'd had one of these when I had horses.

Large grooming area

I have a lab mix, and this type of brush is perfect for his coat (I also have a couple aussies, and I take issue with the product listing for this saying it can be used on long haired dogs...no way!!). I've tried many brushes of this style and most have very flimsy bristles that bend easily, so you can no longer use the self-cleaning feature. Others, the self cleaning feature just breaks (there is always a little spring behind the button, which often pops out and disappears). This is by far the largest slicker brush I've tried. It feels very sturdy to hold, and the large size makes grooming faster. The bristles seem about average - so far none have bent. I will update after I've been using this for a while and comment on the durability!!

Good brush but not for my dog

I appreciate this grooming tool for its comfort, ease of use, and awesome clean-up feature. It just does not do anything for my dog's coat. He's a Siberian Husky and while this brush probably works great on other breeds, I will stick to my Furminator.

Easy to use pet brush

Like how this one feels when I am using it. Some of the others I have tried over the years I feel like I have to tug too much. This really glides while picking up so much hair. Have tried it on both the cat and older dog. Neither one rejected it. Easy to clean with just a press of a button. It really gets so much more than any others I use.

Perfect for loose hair removal

I have an akita god which are "double coated " so owning both a ‘slicker’ brush and a ‘rake’ comb (undercoat comb) is essential. This particular brush works wonders for the already loose hairs and for daily brushing. This bruch has a really nice soft grip with a heavy duty feel. My favorite feature is that the bristles retract with the click of a button which helps with easy removal of hair without having to take all the time to clean the brush.
