Alternative to the Citizen Eco Drive

The description provided by Amazon is accurate at 41mm stainless case, anti-reflective sapphire crystal and a screw down crown with 100m water resistance. I think that's a good improvement in quality for Timex. The case is a matted stainless, not brushed and no shine whatsoever. The lume is not good, fades to half in 10 minutes and fades completely in about one hour. The manual is almost worthless as it gives no guidance as to charging times and how to assure charged status like Eco Drive does. The watch was operating out of the box but was very inaccurate losing seconds every hour. It took 6 hours of charging in sunlight before accuracy was restored. I have had the watch for three weeks and it is dead on accurate. The watch has sort of a vintage look with the tan color of the hands, index and number markers with the black face. I would give 5 stars if not for the bad lume and the lack of an informative manual.

Second hand has a lot of play and doesn’t align with markers

I really wanted to like this. It has so many great things going for it, but the movement’s second hand isn’t at all aligned with the second/ minute markers, and there is so much play in the second hand, that it literally shifts in relation to the marker depending on which side of the watch is held upwards. So this seems to be an extremely cheap quartz movement. I also don’t think the dial is at all elegant or refined. Instead of doing a nicely textured, uniform dial face, Timex did a matt aviator style, but the solar dial’s face finish shows some rather noticeable anomalies in 2 colors as part of their intended design. In the middle of the face is an intended non-symmetrical “D” ish circle shape of another, paler color (probably related to the solar cell function, with subtle lines that run through it at the 4 and 7 positions and one small bar shape leg near the #2 position - easily seen under brighter light, that makes the dial look very cheap. If they had used a face similar to what is available on other brand’s solar watches (like a Citizen), this would have been a keeper! I got 3 of these watches to check out, and they all showed the same issues with second hand and cheap 2 tone dial issues! So I have returned them all.
